  • Publication number: 20050044745
Abstract: A footwear construction comprising a flexible and resilient outsole having a front portion with a plurality of depending moguls on the bottom surface thereof. A midsole is positioned over the outsole and has a front portion with a plurality of spaced holes therethrough which are substantially vertically aligned with some or all of the moguls to enable air flow through the midsole when the moguls are deformed by the weight and walking action of the wearer. A footbed is positioned over the midsole and comprises a soft flexible and resilient body member having a plurality of spaced, raised cushioning elements on the upper surface thereof. The footbed has a front portion with a plurality of spaced apertures therethrough which are substantially vertically aligned with some or all of the holes in the midsole to enable air flow through the body member. An upper extends over the footbed and midsole, and is secured to the outsole.

  • Patent number: 4728934
Abstract: An electro-acoustical transmitter converts electrical signals which correspond to acoustical events into mechanical vibrations which are transmitted onto the skin. The aim is to achieve a small vibrator which, insofar as possible, can be worn on the wrist, for instance, in the manner of a wristwatch. To that end, a coil is employed into which a magnetic core, resiliently mounted relative thereto for instance by a diaphragm, projects as an armature. The housing which carries both the diaphragm and the coil forms the magnetic return flux path. Thus, a miniaturization of the vibrator on the desired order is achieved. An inventive vibrator is particularly suited for the deaf.

  • Patent number: 4642915
Abstract: An article of footwear comprising a flexible top portion of the upper, and a flexible under portion of the upper. The top portion and under portion are joined at their overlapped perimeters by handsewing or by machine stitching to form a forepart of the article of footwear and to form a seam therebetween. The seam is located closely adjacent and substantially parallel to the edge of a sole portion joined to the under portion of the forepart. In the case of handsewing, the perimeters of the top portion and the under portion are provided with apertures therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4590690
Abstract: An article of footwear comprising a flexible elongated vamp or front upper member having a plurality of apertures along its ends, a flexible elongated quarter or rear upper member having a plurality of apertures along its ends, a notched innersole, a flexible socklining having an expanded shape, slits along both sides of the front and rear portions thereof, and a plurality of apertures along both sides of each of the slits. The front and rear upper members are inserted into the slits in the socklining and joined therewith to form a one-piece unit by passing a thread or the like through the apertures to form a seam at each point of insertion. The peripheral portion of the expanded socklining then is wrapped around and attached to an innersole which is notched to receive the raised handsewn seams at the proper locations. Each seam is located closely adjacent and substantially parallel to the "feather line" of the shoe, i.e., the line at which a sole portion is joined to the innersole.

  • Patent number: 4023283
Abstract: A moccasin-type shoe seam and method of manufacturing same wherein the plug is secured to the vamp by a handsewn seam concealing the cut or raw edges of the plug and vamp. The plug and vamp each are provided with two lines of perforations extending through the peripheral portion thereof. The lateral spacing between the lines of perforations in the plug and vamp is substantially the same. The longitudinal spacing between the perforations in the vamp is greater than the longitudinal spacing between the perforations in the plug. In the formation of the seam, the peripheral portion of the vamp is folded over to align the two lines of perforations therein, and the peripheral portion of the plug is folded over to align the two lines of perforations therein.
