  • Patent number: 5275078
Abstract: A shoulder rest for a stringed musical instrument has a carrier for a shoulder-engaging cushion and for two clamping devices which can engage opposite sides of the body of an instrument. One of the clamping devices is adjustably coupled to the carrier for movement toward and away from the other clamping device. The coupling comprises an elongated arm which is provided on the one clamping device and extends longitudinally of the carrier, two annular stops on the carrier, an elastically deformable sleeve-like self-locking bearing between the stops, and an affixing element adjacent the bearing and also located between the stops. The arm extends through the stops, through the bearing and through the affixing element, and the arm can be shifted longitudinally of the carrier by overcoming the resistance of the bearing. Once the arm assumes a desired position, a screw of the affixing element is caused to engage the arm and to fixedly retain it in the selected position.

  • Patent number: 4396320
Abstract: A boring unit comprises a rotary spindle and a tool support mounted therein. The tool supports includes a rearwardly extending headbolt and a rearwardly extending supporting arm. The supporting arm engages an inclined wedge surface, the latter being movable by a connecting rod so that the wedge surface imparts rotary movement to the supporting arm and to the tool support about an axis of adjustment which is oriented perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the spindle, thereby moving the tool in a radial direction. The headbolt of the tool support is retained within a chucking cage. The chucking cage is movable to a position for releasing the headbolt by means of the movable connecting rod.

  • Patent number: 4274888
Abstract: The invention herein disclosed is directed to novel magnetic cores, particularly magnetic tape-wound cores, and to a new, novel and less expensive method of manufacture. The alloys employed in the manufacture of these cores employ smaller quantities of expensive metals such as nickel and, accordingly, result in substantial savings. The cores are exceptionally useful because of their high available flux-density change and high pulse permeability. Generally, the alloys employed contain nickel contents of from about 49 to 56 percent by weight of the alloy, and the remainder is substantially iron and small quantities of additives. The magnetic core is heat treated in a hydrogen atmosphere for several hours, cooled to room temperature, then reheated above the Curie Point and then cooled in a transverse magnetic field. Alternatively, it is possible to cool to just above the Curie Point, and omit the room temperature cooling and subsequent reheating.
