Abstract: A method and a system for restoring domain management for a domain in which content access rights are shared between one or more devices, where the domain management was executed by a first demean management device and is discontinued by this first domain management device. The first domain management device registers one or more characteristics of the domain at a domain registration server. After discontinuation of the domain management by the first domain management device, a second domain management device sends a request to the domain registration server for obtaining the right to manage the domain. The domain registration server provides the right to manage the domain together with the at least one of the one or more registered characteristics of the domain.

Abstract: A method is described for writing an audio/video information stream to an optical disc (2), and for reading the information from disc. The information stream comprises a plurality of alternative video parts (VS 1; VS2; VS3) which are recorded in an interleaved manner; an interleaved unit (IU(i)) comprises a plurality of angle blocks (ABj(i)), each angle block (ABj(i) comprising one portion (VSj(i)) of each of the alternative video stream parts (VSj). For each video portion, a plurality of entry points (EP) are defined. A user is allowed to change from one video stream (VS2) to another video stream (VS 1; VS3) at any moment during the playback of a video portion; the change will be effected at the first entry point after the user command. Thus, it is not necessary to wait until the video portion has been completely played back; thus, it is possible to define large angle block lengths, so that during normal play the jump frequency is reduced.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a storage device, a storing method and rewritable record carrier for storing data file, wherein a rewriting frequency of the date files is identified and the data files are classified based on their identified rewriting frequency. Each data file is then written using a rule selected according to the result of classification. The definition of the allocation class and rules based on the rewriting frequency enables an optimization of the file storage for endurance and power consumption. Thereby, the life time of the storage medium and the battery life of the whole system can be extended.

Abstract: An apparatus for recording a real time stream of digital information signals on a disc like record carrier has been proposed. The stream of information signals represent information arranged in a sequence of video frames, each video frame arranged in separate, consecutive data blocks comprised in separate, consecutive data packets. The apparatus comprises input means (1) for receiving the stream of digital signals, processing means (100) for processing the stream of digital information signals to obtain digital information signals and writing means (102) for writing the digital information signals into the units of recording on the disc like record carrier. The processing means (102) are adopted to detect the data blocks in the data packets and to allocate consecutive data blocks comprised in multiple data packets into consecutive logical units, a size of each logical unit corresponding to the predetermined size of the unit of recording.

Abstract: A record carrier is described carrying a video signal and at least one additional information signal, such as graphics or audio. The at least one additional information signal is meant to be reproduced simultaneously with said video signal. The record carrier further carries scheduling information indicating in which order parts of the at least one additional information signal or video signal have to be read from said record carrier. The scheduling information enables a reproducing device according to the invention to read parts of the video signal and the additional information signals such that no buffer overflow or underflow occurs. The size of the buffers in the apparatus can be reduced by means of the scheduling information.

Abstract: A method for post-synchronizing information stream includes obtaining lip-objects from a video signal. The original lip-objects are replaced with new lip-objects which correspond to a translated audio signal. The new lip-objects may be obtained by tracking a further video signal or by using a database with visemes or lip-parameters. For a multi-language information stream, a desired language may be selected at the receiver.

Abstract: A reproducing apparatus (1) reproduces content stored in encrypted form on a record carrier (2). Abstract: A method and computer-readable medium of handling recording of interactive television, such as MHP, wherein interactive television applications may initiate recording of interactive television content. The interactive television is tagged with information linking the content to the application that made the recording for access control purposes. In this way applications can see which recorded content is related to the application. Thus access is limited for applications to related recorded content. Furthermore an application may select between different parts of a multi-part program, such as a series of television programs.

Abstract: According to a first aspect of the invention, data that will be needed for starting the applications of the storage medium are stored in a reserved area of the storage medium. The data stored in the reserved area are read and cached in a single operation when the storage medium is declared to the operating system. Therefore the seeking and spinning-up operations of the reading head that are required for starting the application(s) are limited to a minimum. According to a second aspect of the invention, programs that create a new application file indicate whether this application file should be assigned to the reserved area. If so, the file system implementation allocates the application file to the reserved area.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for editing a recorded data stream is disclosed. A frame number is received from a user interface for an edit point in the recorded data stream selected by a user. An expected presentation timestamp of the selected frame number is calculated. A first predetermined value is added to the expected timestamp to form a first time limit. The first predetermined value is then subtracted from the expected presentation timestamp to form a second time limit, wherein the first and second time limits form a time window. The system then searches for the selected frame at the expected presentation timestamp on a storage device using the time window. The predetermined values are chosen to ensure that only a single frame (the required frame) can have a PTS within the time window.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a drive device and method of reading from or writing to a record carrier (10), wherein data is input or output via an interface (32) using a first format according to a first file system. In the drive device (30), the first format is mapped to a second format according to a second file system used on the record carrier (10). The apparatus writes in a first location a block of an auxiliary file comprising a part of an auxiliary information signal having a specific presentation time, in a second location a subsequent block of the corresponding auxiliary file and in at least one location between the first and second location at least one block of the main file comprising a part of the main information signal having a presentation time which corresponds to the presentation time of the auxiliary information signal to be written in the first location. In this way the respective files are interleaved written on the record carrier such that the jumping time between subsequent read actions is significantly reduced. This results in an increase of the effective read bit-rate of a playback device.
