  • Patent number: 4231769
Abstract: A filtered ventilating system for a cooking unit incorporates a hood emplaceable above a cooking unit. An exhaust stack extends from the hood for removing cooking fumes captured by the hood. A barrier wall divides the interior of the hood into inlet and outlet zones open to the cooking unit and exhaust stack, respectively, and is provided with a fume opening to receive a filter for grease and the like. Wash down pipes respectively extend along the exhaust zone of the hood adjacent the filter and along an exhaust stack. A motor rotates the wash down pipes and a suitable supply provides wash liquid to the pipes, which are thus energizable to simultaneously rotate and spray the wash liquid onto adjacent hood, filter and exhaust stack surfaces for cleaning same. Pivot and latch apparatus supports the filter for reversal on the barrier wall, to permit both sides of the filter to be cleaned by liquid from the wash down pipes.

  • Patent number: 4155348
Abstract: A ventilator for cooking units particularly of the kind having a forwardly disposed cooking area and a rearwardly disposed, upstanding flue, as for exhausting of combustion products. The ventilator comprises a free-standing floor-supported hood of rectangular box shape and opens forward and downward to receive the cooking unit removably therein. The hood is formed by boxlike inner and outer shells opening forwardly and downwardly with their top, back and opposite side panels spaced to define a single continuous air flow space therebetween. The air flow space is closed except for an inlet adjacent the rear of the hood and an outlet comprising an inverted U-shaped slot disposed near and extending along the front edges of the top and side panels of the inner shell to face into the cooking area and having a pair of flow directing louvers extending therealong. A U-shaped perforated baffle between the shells separates the front and rear parts of the air space.

  • Patent number: 4093432
Abstract: An electrostatic precipitator having a rotor supported for rotation within a housing containing inlet and outlet openings adjacent the opposite ends thereof. The rotor is formed by a plurality of ringlike collector plates which are fixedly connected in axially spaced relationship. One end of the rotor, as disposed adjacent the outlet opening, is closed by a support plate. The collector plates are alternately of opposite charge to create electrostatic fields therebetween. The collector plates have aligned central openings which decrease in diameter towards the closed end of the rotor. The plates also have equal surface areas so that substantially equal electrostatic fields are created between each adjacent pair of plates. The collector plates, in the radially outward direction, are sloped in a direction which is axially opposite to the direction of the gas supplied to the inlet opening.

  • Patent number: 4018578
Abstract: An electrostatic precipitator having a rotor supported for rotation within a housing containing inlet and outlet openings adjacent the opposite ends thereof. The rotor is formed by a plurality of ringlike collector plates which are fixedly connected in parallel but axially spaced relationship. One end of the rotor, which is closed by a support plate, is disposed adjacent the outlet opening. The collector plates are alternately of opposite charge to create electrostatic fields therebetween to remove ionized particles from the gas which flows radially outwardly between the plates during rotation of the rotor. The collector plates have aligned central openings which decrease in diameter towards the closed end of the rotor. The outside diameter of the collector plates also decrease in diameter towards the closed end of the rotor, whereby the collector plates all substantially equal surface areas acted upon by the electrostatic field.

  • Patent number: 3983796
Abstract: An exhaust fume treatment apparatus for removing suspended or entrained material from a gas including a substantially cylindrical housing having a peripheral wall and inlet and outlet openings in opposite end walls. A slinger wheel is rotatable within the housing and has circumferentially spaced, nonoverloading blades. A blower has its inlet connected to the outlet of the housing. Polluted fumes are drawn into the housing by the blower and pass outwardly through the slinger blades whereby the materials in the gas are deposited on, and thrown substantially radially outwardly by the blades, toward the peripheral wall of the housing for collection. A two stage gas deflector within the slinger wheel spreads the flow of gas more uniformly over the slinger wheel blades. A cylindrical screen encircles the slinger wheel and has plural openings angled toward the housing inlet end.
