  • Patent number: 4709291
Abstract: For protecting service personnel during maintenance work on a metal-encapsulated, compressed-gas-insulated high-voltage switching installation, a protective device is provided which is used if gas spaces with voltage-carrying conductor parts are bounded by unilaterally exposed bulkhead bushing insulators. Sensors of the protective device are arranged at the gas spaces and their signals are fed via an evaluating unit to a tripping unit for opening feed switches to cut off the voltage to the conductor elements in the gas spaces as well as for blocking the reclosing of these feed switches.

  • Patent number: 4659886
Abstract: A disconnect switch, suitable for various conductor runs within a section of a metal-clad, gas-filled, high-voltage switchgear, with shielding bodies enclosing the ends of the conductors, is operated through a rotating insulator shaft that is perpendicular to the plane of the phase-current path of the section. One shielding body is made approximately in the shape of a sphere, whose center lies on the axis of the rotating insulator shaft and on the longitudinal axis of a movable switch contact. In the interior of the sphere there are one or more surfaces to accept a connecting means necessary for connection with the end of a first conductor. The mid-perpendiculars of each of the connection surfaces lie in the plane of the phase-current path. The isolating gap also lies in the path of an angled second conductor.

  • Patent number: 4559424
Abstract: A switching assembly for a high voltage switching installation includes a tubular movable main switching contact in which is disposed an auxiliary switching pin. An elastic spring drive with a drive lever and a cocking lever is pivotably attached at an outer part of a shaft traversing the movable main switching contact. The drive lever is connected at an end opposite the pivot shaft to one end of a coupling lever in turn pivotably connected at an end to the auxiliary switching pin by means of a shaft. A hinged spring is connected at one end to the drive lever and at an opposite end to the cocking lever. A guide roller of a mechanical control is rotatably secured to the cocking lever and is disposed in a longitudinal guide slot for controlling the cocking of the spring to shift the drive lever between two end positions.

  • Patent number: 4514783
Abstract: An encapsulated, compressed-gas-insulated, high-voltage switching installation is disclosed in which the circuit breaker is arranged horizontally in a pressure vessel having one end wall formed by a base plate to which are secured the interrupter units of the circuit breaker and all parts of the drive and arc extinguishing device, including the control unit and hydraulical accumulator. The base plate with the interrupter units and all parts of the drive and arc extinguishing device connected thereto can be moved as a structural unit on rollers connected to the base plate rolling on the installation ground or on a foundation, or lifted by a crane.

  • Patent number: 4493009
Abstract: In a compressed gas insulated high voltage switching installation, in particular, one with single phase metallic encapsulation, including bus bar systems and switchgear sections, with branches which are firmly anchored in space and in which compensators with tie rods are arranged in line with the bus bar systems, the longitudinal expansion of the housings of the bus bar systems is taken up practically free of stress without large cost, by subdividing each phase of the bus bar systems into sections preferably lying along two parallel longitudinal axes. Double-T-shaped connecting housings, firmly anchored in space, are arranged between adjacent sections of the same phase and, at least at one end of each section, a compensator is arranged on both sides of the connecting housing. Tie rods, starting from the outer flanges of the compensators, bridge the compensators and the connecting housing.

  • Patent number: 4484047
Abstract: In a metal encapsulated, pressurized gas insulated high voltage disconnect switch operating at voltages above 245 kV, weak arcs drawn during the switching operation are prevented from wandering off, so that they cannot commutate to the encapsulation and produce an arc to ground, by an electric field in the switching gap controlled by moving a field electrode jointly with the switching rod, with the motion cycles of the switching rod and the field electrode controlled during the closing and opening process in a forced manner by a lever linkage provided with steering rods for the switching rod and the field electrode.

  • Patent number: 4241379
Abstract: In pressurized, gas insulated, high voltage switching installations with single or polyphase metal encapsulation, a switchgear section comprises several adjacent pressure tanks having gas tight partitions for accommodating the high-voltage switchgear and other current carrying parts. The number of encapsulation tanks is minimized by arranging the switchgear and current carrying parts belonging to one bus bar of the section in a first pressure tank, the power circuit breakers, work grounding switches, current transformers and section related current carrying parts of the section are arranged in a second pressure tank and the equipment and current carrying parts required on the terminal side of each section are arranged in a third pressure tank.

  • Patent number: 3942030
Abstract: An arrangement for detecting dielectric breakdowns in a metal-clad, high-voltage installation made up of a plurality of component sections includes a thermal sensor for each of the sections wherein a dielectric breakdown may occur for sensing the temperature. The output of the thermal sensors feed a comparator which forms an output signal from at least two discrete signals from the thermal sensor. A circuit arrangement corresponding to the comparator identifies the thermal sensor associated with the component section wherein a dielectric breakdown has occurred.
