  • Patent number: 4866967
Abstract: To obtain flat component strips from a cold-rolled metal strip inexpensively and with the minimum use of technical apparatus, slitting shears 5 are disposed between sets of tensioning drums 3, 4; 11, 12, more particularly between the inlet side set of tensioning drums 3, 4 and a straightening unit 6 of a stretch flattening apparatus for a metal strip 1. This arrangement of the slitting shears eliminates the additional stretch flattening of the component strips otherwise required after the metal strip itself has already been stretch flattened. The component strips between the two sets of tensioning drums 3, 4; 11, 12 also acquire the same length.

  • Patent number: 4770227
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for the production of cast metal strip of amorphous and/or compact grained structures. To enable the strip to be coiled on reels at high strip speeds, the strip 6 is guided at the outlet of the casting apparatus 1-6 having a casting wheel 4 over a first and second strip guide channel. The first strip guide channel is formed by at least one cooling wheel 9, 11 and a guide wall 10, 12 disposed concentrically of the cylindrical surface of the cooling wheel 9, 11. By means of a cooling medium the strip is forced against the cylindrical surface of the cooling wheel 9, 11 and thereby intensively cooled at a high conveying speed and without tensile stress. When it leaves the or each cooling wheel 9, 11 the strip 6 is strong enough to pass freely guided through the perpendicularly disposed second guide channel 14.

  • Patent number: 4124415
Abstract: A process of treating metal strips using a linear electric motor with spaced apart motor elements comprises directing the metal strips into the space between the motor elements and operating the motor to produce a travelling wave and advancing the strip between the motor parts without contact thereof at a velocity greatly reduced with respect to the velocity of the linear electric motor wave so as to produce a slippage between the wave and the strip and to effect the heating of the strip as it is advanced. The apparatus includes a linear electric motor including a first motor unit spaced away from a second motor unit in the form of a linear motor or return bar so as to form a gap therebetween through which the metal strip is advanced. The apparatus includes means for feeding the strip through straightening rolls and cropping shears, S-rollers and coiling and uncoiling reels.

  • Patent number: 4022367
Abstract: A device for conveying the leading edges of metal strips, belts and sheets to a fixation point on a reel drum for winding thereon includes a carriage which is movable from a pickup station in which clamping means on the carriage engages with the belt at a spaced location from its leading edge through an affixation point on the winding drum at which the leading edge is engaged so that it may be wound on the drum. The carriage carries the clamping means and in addition it carries first and second limitation members which are engageable with the metal sheet between the clamping location and the forward edge. The limitation members are mounted on the carriage so that they may be moved outwardly and inwardly in respect to the clamping means and upwardly and downwardly in respect to the associated sheet so that they may be selectively and independently positioned so as to locate the edge of the sheet exactly in respect to a fixation point on the windup drum.
