  • Patent number: 4904166
Abstract: A motor-pump assembly for an agitator-type clothes washing machine includes a motor with a vertical drive shaft having upper and lower ends that extend above and below the top and bottom end bells of the motor casing. The lower end of the drive shaft carries a pulley for rotating the input shaft of a belt driven transmission actuating an associated agitator and spin tub. The upper end of the drive shaft carries a water pump impeller contained within a pump casing that rests on a dishlike drip shield, the shield in turn resting on the top end bell of the motor casing. The pump casing, the drip shield, and the top end bell of the motor casing are maintained in vertical alignment with each other by a pair of springlike metal clips that can be easily removed to allow for pump replacement.

  • Patent number: 4519223
Abstract: A top loading clothes washing machine has a resiliently mounted outer tub within which is a spin tub mounted for rotation about a vertical axis. At its upper end, the spin tub has a weighted balance ring releasably mounted on the inner side of the spin tub and extending toward the central axis to serve as a clothes guard. The balance ring is formed of a concrete aggregate material and is completely covered with a plastic material. The outer tub has a top cap with a spray tube on the underside extending around the periphery of the top cap and the tube has discharge openings directed into a spray channel which breaks up the stream of water and directs it downwardly onto the clothes within the spin tub.

  • Patent number: 4125003
Abstract: A tumbler type washing machine has a non-rotatable tub with a recessed sump at the bottom which is connected to drain. A perforate box-like strainer member is secured within the sump around the drain opening to prevent foreign objects in the tub from entering the drain hose and possibly damaging the pump. The strainer has a bottom member and a cover member and has projection which space the strainer from the walls of the sump.
