Publication number: 20060113248Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods for facilitating contact between a liquid and a fluid. Such systems and methods may allow efficient removal of components from the liquid without using undesirable reducing agents. In this regard, the disclosed embodiments provide for the purification of a liquid by passing the liquid and a fluid through a porous medium. The porous medium facilitates mixing of the liquid and the fluid. A partial pressure differential of the component between the liquid and the fluid facilitates the transfer of the component from the liquid to the fluid in the mixed liquid and fluid. One embodiment of the invention relates to a method of purifying a liquid. The method includes passing a liquid, such as a fuel, and a fluid, such as a non-reactive gas, through a porous medium, the liquid containing a component, such as oxygen gas, therein. The passing causes mixing of the liquid and the fluid and transfer of at least some of the component from the liquid to the fluid.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2004Publication date: June 1, 2006Inventors: Donald Koenig, Santosh Limaye, William Appel

Publication number: 20050098034Abstract: A PSA system that purifies a feed gas, such as a reformate gas in fuel cell system. The PSA system includes a series of vessels housing an adsorbent or combination of adsorbents that adsorb carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, water and methane in the reformate gas. The adsorbent vessels are connected to each other and a feed manifold, a product manifold and an exhaust manifold through suitable conduits, where the gas flows are controlled by a product rotating valve and feed rotating valve or a series of open/shut valves. A specialized PSA cycle controls the valves so that the vessels cycle through various stages of equalization, blow-down, purge, pressurization and production to purify the feed gas.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 12, 2003Publication date: May 12, 2005Inventors: Craig Gittleman, William Appel, David Winter, Brian Sward

Publication number: 20040009888Abstract: A cleaning tablet which has a plurality of discrete regions with differing compositions, characterised in that at least one first region of the tablet is a smooth region and at least one second region of the tablet is a solid region and wherein the concentration of surfactants in said first region is at least 5 times the concentration of surfactants in said second region.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 4, 2003Publication date: January 15, 2004Applicant: Unilever Home & Personal Care USA, Division of Conopco, Inc.Inventors: Peter William Appel, Aliaksei Kalbasenka, Lammert Nauta, Peter Iwan Stuut

Publication number: 20030116177Abstract: The invention provides a non-intrusive automatic dosing system for use with existing fabric- and dishwashing machines. The system contains a container house with one ore more containers which can contain a fabric- or dishwashing product or ingredient, said container(s) being connected with a pump, said pump being connected with the water inlet conduit of the machine. The container house also contains means for receiving and transmitting signals. Signals are received from at least one sensor, capable of reading at least one parameter of the washing process or machine when in operation, and cause the transmission of a signal to activate the pump to cause the delivery of the product or ingredient to the water inlet conduit of the machine.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 3, 2002Publication date: June 26, 2003Applicant: Unilever Home & Personal Care USA, Division of Conopco, Inc.Inventors: Peter William Appel, Paul Johan Birker, Ian Charles Callaghan, Roy Van Heesen, Cornelis Gerhard Van Kralingen, Rahul Dominic Vas-Bhat, Marinus Maria Warmoeskerken

Publication number: 20030069162Abstract: Detergent compositions in the form of tablets used in fabric washing which incorporate most of the surfactants in particles which constitute a substantial part but not all the composition of the tablet. The organic surfactant in this particles provides a substantial part but not all of the weight of the particles. The mixture of anionic and nonionic detergent surfactants is employed wherein anionic is clearly in the majority. The balance of the composition contains a substantial proportion of material other than organic surfactant which is water-soluble.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 22, 2002Publication date: April 10, 2003Applicant: Unilever Home & Personal Care USA, Division of Conopco, Inc.Inventors: Peter William Appel, Edwin Leo Lempers, Henning Wagner
