Patent number: 7284540Abstract: A fuel pump system for a fuel tank having a first and a second section has a fuel pump and a jet pump disposed in the first section. The jet pump draws fuel from the second section of the fuel tank through a transfer line and delivers it to the first section of the fuel tank. A check valve is located in the second section of the fuel tank to prohibit flow from the first section to the second section but to allow flow from the second section to the first. In this manner, the fluid is retained within transfer line so that a siphoning action can occur between the second section and the first section of the fuel tank.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2006Date of Patent: October 23, 2007Assignees: Denso International America, Inc., DENSO CorporationInventors: William Attwood, Norihiro Hayashi

Publication number: 20070062492Abstract: A movable fuel valve lies within a housing at an end of a housing fuel passage. A fuel tube has a nozzle end inserted within a first end of the housing fuel passage while the movable valve element is situated at a second end of the housing fuel passage and controls fuel flow from the second end of the housing fuel passage. The nozzle end remains surrounded in fuel when the valve element is closed and sealed against the second end of the housing fuel passage. When the fuel pressure within the housing fuel passage is greater than a fuel pressure on the other side of the valve, the fuel flows from the housing fuel passage, through the part of the housing surrounding the valve, and into the reservoir. The movable valve element prevents fuel from flowing from the main-side of a fuel tank to the sub side of the tank.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 21, 2005Publication date: March 22, 2007Inventors: William Attwood, Patrick Powell

Publication number: 20060096582Abstract: In a fuel pump module of a vehicle fuel tank, a check valve has a counter-balanced inlet door that uses a counterweight to assist in opening the inlet door to control the flow of fuel into and out of the jet pump tube of the fuel pump module. The inlet door has a longitudinal body, a first and second pivot arm on opposing sides of the body for the door to pivot, a circular or semi-circular door portion having a through hole to secure a sealing member to the inlet door. The door portion and counterweight are at opposing ends of the body. When the inlet door rotates to its closed position, the sealing member creates a seal with the end of the jet tube. At least one straight peripheral edge about the otherwise curved door portion prevents the door portion from interfering with surrounding structure during operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 8, 2004Publication date: May 11, 2006Inventors: Patrick Powell, William Attwood, Akiyoshi Mukaidani

Patent number: 5768684Abstract: In a method and apparatus for maintaining a minimum transmission power level between two communication stations, each station measures the other's received signal quality, and returns an indication of signal quality as part of a regular maintenance burst. Each station adjusts its own transmission power level based on the returned signal quality indication. The signal quality indication is based on the received ratio of bit energy to total noise power spectral density which is calculated from an estimated bit-error-rate.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1996Date of Patent: June 16, 1998Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Jerrold Lee Grubb, Stanley William Attwood, John William Arens

Patent number: 4097640Abstract: Foldable boxboard made by dry-laying cellulosic fibers and 1-10% starch. The boxboard has a weight of at least 210 g.s.m., a stiffness in the machine direction of at least 5.8 Kenley units, and a ratio of stiffness in the machine direction and in the cross-machine direction of substantially 1:1.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1976Date of Patent: June 27, 1978Assignee: Karl Kroyer St. Anne's LimitedInventors: Harold George Curry, Brian William Attwood, Derek Graham Walter White, John Mosgaard Christensen, Karl Kristian Kobs Kroyer

Patent number: 4083750Abstract: For a paper, board or similar fibrous web making machine, a flowbox comprising an enclosed explosion chamber having upstream and downstream walls converging from a top wall toward a bottom wall, the stock inlet being directed at the downstream wall adjacent the region of convergence. A stock outlet is provided by non-divergent upper and lower plates defining an exit slice, the lower plate being a continuation of the bottom wall and the lower plate being shorter than the upper plate.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 1976Date of Patent: April 11, 1978Assignee: St. Anne's Board Mill Company LimitedInventors: Michael David Newns, Brian William Attwood
-
Patent number: 4074393Abstract: In dry forming a layer of fibers, the fibers are conveyed by carrier air to a distributor housing having a perforated bottom wall through which the fibers pass downwards on to a foraminous forming surface connected on its underside to a suction box. The invention ensures that the fibers pass from the distributor to the forming surface under the influence of suction and gravity alone so as to provide a layer of more uniform depth than hitherto obtained by dry forming.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1975Date of Patent: February 21, 1978Assignee: Karl Kroyer St. Anne's LimitedInventors: Denis Raymond Hicklin, Brian William Attwood
-
Patent number: 4074959Abstract: An apparatus for forming a multi-ply sheet of paper in which a first web of cellulosic fibers is dry formed and consolidated, a second web of cellulosic fibers is separately dry formed and consolidated, and the two thus consolidated webs are combined into a single multi-ply sheet of paper or paperboard.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1976Date of Patent: February 21, 1978Assignee: Karl Kroyer St. Anne's LimitedInventors: Harold George Curry, Brian William Attwood, Derek Graham Walter White
-
Patent number: 4071651Abstract: A process for making a multi-ply consolidated dry-formed fibrous web having at least three plies, the outer plies are impregnated with a stiffening agent (e.g. starch) and the intermediate plies are impregnated with a sizing agent (e.g. wax/rosin size) to render them impervious to the stiffening agent. After the web has been consolidated by hot moist pressing, its outer surfaces may be further sized and hot moulded.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1977Date of Patent: January 31, 1978Assignee: Karl Kroyer St. Anne's LimitedInventors: Denis Raymond Hicklin, Derek Graham Walter White, Brian William Attwood
-
Patent number: 4046622Abstract: A process and apparatus for forming a multi-ply sheet of cellulosic fibrous material. A dry-laid mat and a wet-laid web of cellulosic fibers are joined together and concurrently the dry-laid mat is consolidated by the concurrent application of heat, pressure and moisture, the moisture being derived from the wet-laid web.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1976Date of Patent: September 6, 1977Assignee: Karl Kroyer St. Anne's LimitedInventors: Brian William Attwood, Dennis Raymond Hicklin

Patent number: 3976412Abstract: Apparatus for dry forming one or more fibrous layers on a forming surface to provide eventually fiberboard or paper in which the fibers are fed by carrier air to a distributor immediately above the forming surface. The rate of flow of the carrier air and its fiber concentration are adjusted to match the distributor requirements by removal of some of the carrier air in a cyclone separator upstream of the distributor. Any removed fibers are fed back into the remaining carrier air.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1975Date of Patent: August 24, 1976Assignee: Karl Kroyer St. Anne's LimitedInventors: Brian William Attwood, Denis Raymond Hicklin
