  • Patent number: 3972250
Abstract: A single point threading attachment for use on an engine lathe includes a cutting tool carrying an advancing block adapted to be mounted to the carriage, a half-nut closing mechanism, a lead-screw timing mechanism, a pneumatic carriage control, and a control circuitry for coordinating the operation thereof. The attachment is intended for use in successive cutting passes upon a workpiece carried in a conventional engine lathe upon which the attachment is mounted. The timing control is adapted to be mounted upon or formed from a modified existing engine lathe timing dial, and includes a plurality of pins carried upon a plate mounted on the shaft of the timing dial. A pair of switches are mounted adjacent the timing dial shaft to be engaged by the rotating pins. The switches are located at an angle slightly larger than a multiple of the angle separating adjacent pins upon the plate of the timing dial shaft.
