Patent number: 10169847Abstract: An air-to-air background-oriented Schlieren system and method for measuring and rendering visible density changes in air that cause a refractive index change by an airborne vehicle. A sensor aircraft equipped with a high-speed visible spectrum camera travels at low airspeed on a predetermined route and on a level altitude over a background having consistent contrast and sunlight reflectivity. The target aircraft, traveling on the same predetermined route but at an altitude between the sensor aircraft and the ground (background) passes beneath the sensor aircraft. The camera on the sensor aircraft captures a series of images including a reference image immediately before the target aircraft enters the image frame followed by several data images as the target aircraft passes through the image frame. The data images are processed to calculate density gradients around the target aircraft. These density gradients include shockwaves, vortices, engine exhaust, and wakes.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 2016Date of Patent: January 1, 2019Assignee: The United States of America as Represented by the Administrator of NASAInventors: James Thomas Heineck, Daniel William Banks, Edward Treanor Schairer, Paul Stewart Bean, Edward Andrew Haering, Jr., Brett Arnold Pauer, Brittany Joan Martin, David Nils Larson

Patent number: 8392358Abstract: A method/system considers the phenomenon of slowly changing dimensions in the process of reporting on facts of a collection of facts organized as, or otherwise accessible according to, a dimensionally-modeled fact collection. A report query specifies a temporal mode, and the specified temporal mode is processed to determine a time extent descriptor (e.g., in view of at least one of a context, in which the report query is made, and at least one dimension coordinate constraint). A processed result of querying the dimensionally-modeled fact collection includes appropriate indications of dimension coordinates in view of the time information from the time extent descriptor.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2006Date of Patent: March 5, 2013Assignee: NICE Systems Technologies Inc.Inventors: Todd O. Patent number: 8370843Abstract: Disclosed are a method, system and computer program product for progressively improving the fit of a pool of reusable environments to requirements of programs in a computer system. The method comprises steps of: providing a first environment for a first program; responsive to initiation of a second program, making a determination whether creation of a new environment is a best response; responsive to a determination that creation of a new environment is a best response, creating a new environment for the second program; responsive to a determination that creating a new environment is not a best response, testing the pool for a best fit environment; and adding elements to the best fit environment to match requirements of the second program, unless the best fit environment already matches the requirements of the second program.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2000Date of Patent: February 5, 2013Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Michael Casson Bailey, Timothy William Banks, Ian Geoffrey Redding, Dennis J Zimmer
