Patent number: 11401810Abstract: A gasket for concrete structures such as tunnel segments includes a gasket body having a bottom face configured to be positioned against a surface of an associated tunnel segment. The bottom face may include a set of spaced indentations. First and second anchor members protrude from opposed side edges of the gasket adjacent the bottom face of the gasket. The anchor members are configured to attach the gasket to the tunnel segment during casting of a precast concrete member. The gasket body forms a groove in the concrete member and the anchor members form side channels in the groove. A respective fin can be provided on opposed side faces of the gasket. Should a defect be found in the original gasket, the gasket body can be removed from the groove of the concrete member relatively easily, even in the field, and a replacement gasket having corresponding anchor members, fins and indentations, can be snapped into the groove.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2020Date of Patent: August 2, 2022Assignee: Vertex, Inc.Inventors: William C. Andrick, Richard J. Bowers, Troy Davidson, James A. Westhoff, George M. Stamper

Patent number: 6719302Abstract: A gasket for a pipe joint includes an annular gasket body which is symmetrical around an axial centerline and is therefore insensitive to axial orientation. The gasket is formed of a resilient material and includes a base adapted to sealingly engage an annular groove formed in one of the pipe segments to be joined. First and second protrusions run along the length of the gasket body and extend radially therefrom. The first and second projections are spaced apart symmetrically about the centerline. An annular bore, bisected by the center line, extends within the interior of the gasket body, and comprises a central region bridging first and second transversely spaced apart lobes. It is particularly suited for sealing an annular space in a bell-and-spigot pipe joint and provides an increased surface contact area to compensate for defects in the sealing surfaces of the pipes.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2001Date of Patent: April 13, 2004Assignee: Vertex, Inc.Inventor: William C. Publication number: 20020153671Abstract: A sealing member having an elongate body formed of an elastomeric material has a generally planar sealing surface adapted to provide an outward sealing force in a direction generally perpendicular to the sealing surface. The seal further includes a plurality of longitudinally extending hollow regions formed within the sealing member which are bounded at least in part by longitudinally extending and transversely spaced apart structural partitions. A layer of elastomeric material on a side opposite the sealing surface spans the structural partitions thus enclosing the hollow regions. The seals are useful in constructing segmented tunnels, ducts, and the like, and are particularly adapted to withstand high pressures.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 18, 2001Publication date: October 24, 2002Applicant: Construction Polymers CompanyInventors: Ronald P. Patent number: 6406025Abstract: A resilient compressible gasket having an embedment portion, a pipe engaging portion and a intermediate “radius” portion integral with the embedment and pipe engaging portions. The gasket assumes a “pleated” configuration when in the operative position, the pipe engaging portion extending through the embedment portion, yielding a gasket which compensates for deviation of the pipe from a nominal horizontal alignment without any reduction in the water-tight seal provided by the gasket. The gasket is sized to provide for easy insertion of a corrugated pipe into the pipe engaging portion while providing an excellent water-tight seal when clamped into position about one or more annular recesses and peaks of the corrugated pipe. Another embodiment of the gasket is designed to be secured to a cored or performed opening in a cast member through the use of an expansion-type clamping assembly.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2001Date of Patent: June 18, 2002Assignee: Poly-Tec Products, Inc.Inventors: James A. Westhoff, James A. Kelly, William C. Andrick

Patent number: 5687976Abstract: A pipe joint includes an outer pipe and an inner pipe inserted into the outer pipe. One of the outer pipe and the inner pipe includes an annular groove and a gasket is positioned in the groove to provide a seal between the outer pipe and the inner pipe. The gasket includes an annular gasket body formed of a resilient material with the gasket body having a centerline. A projection extends radially away from the gasket body. The projection is so located on the gasket body that it is bisected by the centerline thereof. An annular bore extends in the gasket body. The bore is spaced from the projection and is so located in the gasket body that it is bisected by the centerline thereof. The gasket is symmetrical around an axial centerline and is therefore insensitive to axial orientation. It is meant for sealing an annular space in a bell and spigot pipe joint and is capable of sealing against both internal and external pressures and internal and external vacuums.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1996Date of Patent: November 18, 1997Assignee: Vertex, Inc.Inventors: William C. Andrick, Salvatore R. Brugnano

Patent number: 4602792Abstract: A dual function gasket adapted for insertion into a suitable groove formed in the bell of an associated pipe includes an annular gasket body made of a resilient material. The body terminates radially inwardly in a leading lip and a pressure activated sealing lip spaced rearwardly therefrom. An annular groove is provided in the gasket body and an annular locking ring may be selectively inserted into the groove. The ring is made of a material harder than the gasket body and is inserted into the groove when a high pressure seal is desired. The ring may be removed when only a low pressure seal is desired.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1984Date of Patent: July 29, 1986Assignee: Polymer/Raymond IndustriesInventor: William C. Andrick
