Patent number: 11964266Abstract: A process for removing Co2+, Pb2+, Cd2+ and Cr3+ toxins from bodily fluids is disclosed. The process involves contacting the bodily fluid with an ion exchange composition to remove the metal toxins in the bodily fluid, including blood and gastrointestinal fluid. Alternatively, blood can be contacted with a dialysis solution which is then contacted with the ion exchange composition. The ion exchange compositions are represented by the following empirical formula: AmZraTibSncMdSixOy. A composition comprising the above ion exchange compositions in combination with bodily fluids or dialysis solution is also disclosed. The ion exchange compositions may be supported by porous networks of biocompatible polymers such as carbohydrates or proteins.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 2019Date of Patent: April 23, 2024Assignee: UOP LLCInventors: Gregory John Lewis, Paulina Jakubczak, Julio C. Marte, William Christopher Sheets

Patent number: 8395006Abstract: A process for the alkylation of a benzene-containing refinery stream such as reformate with light refinery olefins which is capable of achieving high benzene conversion levels operates in a fixed bed of an MWW zeolite catalyst, preferably MCM-22, in single pass mode in the liquid phase at a relatively low to moderate temperatures with pressure maintained at a value adequate to ensure subcritical operation. High levels of benzene conversion with conversions of at least 90% and higher, e.g. 92% or 95% or even higher are achievable. A high octane product is produced, comprising mono-, di- and tri-alkylbenzenes with lesser levels of the tetra-substituted products. By operating with staged olefin injection, the end point of the alkylation product can be maintained at a low value while, at the same time, achieving high levels of benzene and olefin conversion.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 2010Date of Patent: March 12, 2013Assignee: ExxonMobil Research and Engineering CompanyInventors: Michael C. Clark, Benjamin S. Umansky, Elizabeth A. Nye, Mark J. Reichensperger, William C. Lewis

Patent number: 4363647Abstract: This invention is directed to the production of fused silica-containing glass articles of large cross section or diameter wherein at least a surface layer thereof exhibits very high optical quality. The method involves depositing via flame hydrolysis/oxidation reaction a layer of fused silica-containing soot onto a supporting bait, essentially immediately thereafter applying a source of heat concentrated uniformly across the breadth of the soot deposit, but focused only over a relatively small area thereof, to raise the temperature within that area sufficiently to uniformly consolidate the soot in that area into a non-porous glass, and then cooling the glass to room temperature.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1981Date of Patent: December 14, 1982Assignee: Corning Glass WorksInventors: David L. Bachman, William C. Lewis, Jr., Peter C. Schultz, Francis W. Voorhees

Patent number: 4342291Abstract: An internal combustion engine comprises a piston having first and second coaxial parts movable axially relative to each other in the direction of reciprocation of the piston and having a chamber therebetween which varies in volume with the relative movement. A conduit for fluid connects the chamber to a lubricant opening on a crank pin of a crankshaft. An inlet rotary valve between the lubricant opening and the chamber permits a flow of pressurized lubricant from the opening to the chamber at a first rotational position of the crankshaft and seals the chamber from the opening at other rotational positions of the crankshaft.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1980Date of Patent: August 3, 1982Inventor: William C. Patent number: 3984249Abstract: A process is disclosed for increasing the sensitivity of negative-forming radiation sensitive silver halide layers by treating such silver halide layers with hydrogen. The layers thus treated manifest a reduced or substantial absence of reciprocity law failure as well as increased sensitivity to electromagnetic radiation. The products so treated can contain spectral and chemical sensitizers and/or color forming dye-couplers and/or other suitable addenda conventionally employed with photosensitive elements. The products can also exhibit the ability to increase still further in photosensitivity even after imagewise exposure thereof upon prolonged storage of the exposed products under ambient conditions before they are developed.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1975Date of Patent: October 5, 1976Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Thomas A. Babcock, William C. Lewis, Thomas H. James
