  • Publication number: 20190233693
Abstract: Various embodiments disclosed relate to shaped abrasive particles having sharp tips, methods of making the shaped abrasive particles, methods of abrading a substrate with the shaped abrasive particles, and coated abrasive articles including the shaped abrasive particles. The shaped abrasive particle includes a ceramic, has a polygonal cross-sectional shape along a longitudinal axis of the shaped abrasive particle, and at least one tip of the shaped abrasive particle has a radius of curvature of less than or equal to about 19.2 microns.

  • Patent number: 8444458
Abstract: An abrasive article, such as a structured abrasive article, can be treated by subjecting it to plasma whereby the outer surface can be eroded exposing at least a portion of the abrasive particles dispersed within a cross-linked binder forming the abrasive composites. Depending on the process conditions for the plasma treatment, it is possible to erode only a small portion or substantially all of the cross-linked binder from the outer surface. Thus, the initial cut-rate of the abrasive article can be controlled since it is possible to precisely control the degree, height, or area of the exposed abrasive particles.

  • Publication number: 20110021114
Abstract: An abrasive article with a backing having a first major surface and a second major surface opposed to the first major surface. A three-dimensional abrasive layer attached to the first major surface, the three-dimensional abrasive layer comprising a plurality of shaped abrasive composites spaced apart by a plurality of land areas between the shaped abrasive composites, each of the shaped abrasive composites comprising a top surface and a sidewall, and the plurality of shaped abrasive composites and the plurality of land areas both formed from abrasive particles dispersed within an organic binder. A preconditioning indicator located on the top surface of at least some of the plurality of shaped abrasive composites and a persistent indicator located on at least some of the plurality of land areas.
