  • Patent number: 10210887
Abstract: Systems and methods for a providing a chirped current profile with an undershoot for a channel preamplifier are described. A method for writing bits in a magnetic recording disc may include applying an overshoot to a write current which is supplied to a magnetic writer of the magnetic recording disc and applying an undershoot to the write current after the overshoot is applied to at least partially de-saturate the magnetic writer. The method may also include writing a bit to the magnetic recording disc with the magnetic writer using the supplied write current. In some examples, the application of a short negative pulse after an overshoot portion of the write current waveform is delivered to the head during a write operation that writes the bit to the magnetic recording disc.

  • Patent number: 10192580
Abstract: A sequence of symbols is generated to describe a set of write data, the symbols having a length of nT, where T is a channel clock rate and n is an integer over a predetermined range. Bi-directional write currents are applied to a write pole to record the sequence of symbols to a magnetic storage medium. The write pole has an effective footprint with a downtrack length of mT, where m is an integer. The write currents are switched between a first rail current and a second rail current for alternating symbols, the write currents further transitioning to an intermediate current value for at least one channel clock period for symbols longer than 1T. Write currents are applied to the write pole when recording symbols having a length longer than mT using the effective footprint of the write pole as an interval.

  • Publication number: 20180046834
Abstract: An improved system and method for reading an upconversion response from nanoparticle inks is provided. A is adapted to direct a near-infrared excitation wavelength at a readable indicia, resulting in a near-infrared emission wavelength created by the upconverting nanoparticle inks. A short pass filter may filter the near-infrared excitation wavelength. A camera is in operable communication with the short pass filter and receives the near-infrared emission wavelength of the readable indicia. The system may further include an integrated circuit adapted to receive the near-infrared emission wavelength from the camera and generate a corresponding signal. A readable application may be in operable communication with the integrated circuit. The readable application receives the corresponding signal, manipulates the signal, decodes the signal into an output, and displays and/or stores the output.

  • Patent number: 9508370
Abstract: Method and apparatus for controlling the position of a control object in a closed loop control system, such as a servo control system used in a data storage device. In some embodiments, spaced apart first and second data tracks are written to a rotatable data recording medium without using repeated runout (RRO) compensation values to correct for RRO error in servo data written to the medium. A third data track is subsequently written so as to be interspersed between and partially overlap the first and second data tracks. The third data track is written using a set of RRO compensation values to correct for the RRO error in the servo data.

  • Publication number: 20120083342
Abstract: A system and method for allowing competitive dart matches between competitors remotely located from one another. Electronic or computerized dart stations at multiple locations are electronically coupled across a communications network such as the Internet. Visual communication from at least one camera at each location allows detailed monitoring of play at each coupled location. Statistics for all players are stored in a central database. Players may play against stored statistics of players, or may locate a player at a remote location and shoot against him. Multiple dart game formats and/or league formats may be stored and used for play. Because at least two cameras are provided at each dart station, captured video images therefrom may be analyzed using optional software features to help dart players improve their throwing skills. Video transcripts of complete dart games may be captured and reviewed for post mortem analysis by players at the conclusion of the game.

  • Patent number: 7992690
Abstract: The present invention describes a device for locking a lever of a motor vehicle. The device permits an operator to quickly lock the lever in an engaged position and unlock the lever from the engaged position. The device may be used even when the manual dexterity of the operator is limited by protective equipment. The device includes a pin and spring. The pin passes through aligned holes in the flange and lever. Releasing the lever exerts a lateral force on the pin, thereby preventing the pin from lifting from the lever hole and locking the lever in the engaged position. The spring lifts the pin from the locked position when the lateral force is reduced. The device may be used on a brake or clutch lever of a motorcycle, thereby permitting the operator to have at least one free hand at a stop.

  • Publication number: 20100212852
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of a paper suitable for use in a laminated product is described. The process comprising: (a) impregnating the paper preferably on the paper machine with melamine resins dissolved in a solvent, the melamine resins being more than 80% water soluble; the solution having a solids content of less than 50% such that ink may be added to the paper following impregnation. Thus in contrast to established techniques, an ink-pattern is preferably added to the paper after the paper has been treated, preferably impregnated, with resin. In preferred embodiments the paper is calendered after addition of the resins in step (a). The paper can then be further impregnated after printing then combined with a substrate to form a laminated flooring product. Step (a) reduces the wet-expansion caused by the later addition of further resins and is especially useful when step (a) is performed before adding the ink-pattern which then also reduces wet expansion caused by the addition of ink.

  • Publication number: 20070238912
Abstract: A process for the alkylation of isobutane is disclosed wherein isobutane is fed to two separate alkylation systems. The effluent from the first alkylation system is fed to an interim debutanizer where the C4's are separated from the alkylate product. The overhead C4 product is then fed to the second alkylation system to provide the isobutane. The effluent from the second alkylation system is fed to a traditional deisobutanizer to prevent any build up of normal butanes in the system.
