  • Publication number: 20020134675
Abstract: Method of forming a two-piece hollow cathode sputter target assembly and the assembly formed thereby. The sputter target assembly includes an outer shell having a substantially cylindrical side wall and is composed of a relatively low purity metallic material. A sputtering insert includes a substantially cylindrical side wall and is concentrically received within, and bonded to, the outer shell. The sputtering insert is composed of a relatively high purity metallic material as used for depositing a thin layer or film onto a desired substrate.

  • Patent number: 5062847
Abstract: The invention comprises a surgical retractor having a barrel with a distal end and a handle. A plurality of retractor pods are located at a plurality of angles and positions on the lateral periphery of the barrel. The retractor pods are movable between a retracted position in which the pods are substantially flush with the surface of the barrel and an extended position in which each pod outwardly and laterally projects from the barrel. The handle is operatively connected to the pods to move the pods between the retracted and extended positions.

  • Patent number: 4798419
Abstract: An anti-jackknifing valve is designed for use with tractor trailers and is operably inserted in the hydraulic fluid brake line of such vehicles. The valve prevents jackknifing of a trailer during brake applications by initially actuating the brakes on the trailer. The valve arrangement directs hydraulic brake fluid to the trailer brakes first, and a continuing movement of the valve piston then permits hydraulic brake fluid to be delivered to the tractor brakes to thus substantially eliminate the risk of jackknifing.

  • Patent number: 4749019
Abstract: This invention relates to the production casting of molten metal. In such casting, the molten metal being poured into one cavity may be splashed or overflowed into another adjacent cavity. The invention provides a splash guard which defines a barrier to the molten metal and prevents such inadvertent introduction of the molten metal into an adjacent cavity. The splash guard preferably comprises a substantially solid object made of a material, such as graphite, that retains its structural integrity at high temperatures and upon contact with molten metal, but which does not strongly adhere or bond to the molten metal upon cooling. The invention can be embodied in both manual and automatic casting lines. In a manual casting line, the splash guard may physically contact a surface of the mold to create the molten metal barrier between the cavities.

  • Patent number: 4016634
Abstract: Improvement in indexable insert type cutting toolholder having a steel shank and a pocket in the shank for carrying an indexable insert therein, the insert having a central aperture therein by which it is held in place in the toolholder, the improvement comprising a cartridge fitted in the pocket in the shank, an arrangement for fastening the cartridge securely in place in the shank pocket, the cartridge formed of a high speed steel harder than that of the shank but less that that of the insert, the cartridge retaining its hardness even when heated to cherry red heat, the cartridge having a pocket therein for holding the insert, and an arrangement for fastening the insert securely in place in the cartridge pocket.
