    Abstract: Lumber sorting systems and methods that use adaptive lumber management to tailor the distribution of lumber to improve the yield and aesthetic properties of a product are disclosed. An adaptive lumber management system in accordance with the present disclosure may comprise a lumber scanner configured to record one or more characteristics of each board and create a data file for each board comprising information regarding the characteristic of the board. A processor may be configured to determine a target tray for each board based on the data files. The processor may be further configured to generate at least one mapping. The system may further comprise a sorting mechanism configured to sort the plurality of boards into their respective target trays and at least one tipple configured to select each board or the plurality of boards from the plurality of trays according to the at least one mapping.

    Abstract: Phase noise and drift in a broadcast communication system caused by imperfections in transmitter and receiver local oscillators used for up and down conversion of a frequency or phase modulated information signal is eliminated from a downconverted component that is provided for demodulation by adding a pilot frequency component to the modulated signal for mixing by the local oscillator in the transmitter and by frequency locking the local oscillator in the receiver, so that a signal at a frequency equal to the sum of the intermediate frequency and the pilot frequency provided by a phase-locked loop that tracks the pilot frequency component of the downconverted signal is maintained at a desired value. The downconverted signal is mixed with the sum signal provided by the phase-locked loop to provide a component for demodulation at the difference between the pilot frequency and the modulation frequency that is free from the phase noise and drift caused by the local oscillators.

    Abstract: A system for causing an antenna controller for a satellite antenna to determine the alignment position of the antenna for a given satellite, whereby antenna installation time may be substantially reduced when the alignment position of the antenna for a large number of satellites must be determined. The system includes means for measuring the alignment position of the antenna for at least two reference satellites; and means for processing said measurements with stored data indicating the relative positions of the reference satellites and other satellites in accordance with an algorithm to determine the alignment positions of the antenna for the other satellites. The system also includes means for causing an antenna controller for a satellite antenna to determine the skews of the linear polarization axis of the antenna for respectively matching the linear polarization axis of odd-numbered and even-numbered channels received from a satellite.

    Abstract: A three-phase wave-wound electric motor or generator with switched phase-winding parts for alternative voltage operation, one such connection placing all the phase-winding parts in parallel for low-voltage, specifically 110 volt operation. The phase-winding parts are not identical in that one of each pair includes a "dummy coil," that is a slot-position having no coil, or coils, included in circuit for some or all the alternative connections. The arrangement permits of an extra parallel connection compared with corresponding conventional windings and also provides harmonic suppression, reduction of magnetic noise and improvement of torque for motors and improved transient performance and improved output waveform for generators.

    Abstract: Three-phase, alternating current, pole-amplitude modulation (P.A.M.) pole-changing electric motors or generators having series/parallel connection of phase winding parts for the alternate pole-members. To obtain approximately equal air-gap flux-density for both pole-numbers, selected coils are provided in branch connection with the main phase winding parts and switched in circuit for one pole-number only. Such selection, to be consistent with normal coil-reversal requirements of pole-changing by P.A.M., is shown to necessitate branch coils represented by similarly angularly positioned vectors in each phase-winding and of equal number in the reversed and non-reversed phase-winding parts.

    Abstract: A 3-phase, alternating current electric motor or generator having a stator winding comprising three phase-windings in start-connection wound on a stator having a slot-number not divisible by "3", yet providing a substantially balanced 3-phase winding. The stator winding coils are disposed to provide a high positive-sequence distribution factor and a low negative-sequence distribution factor. This is achieved with two of the phase-windings having an equal number of coils to each other, the third phase-winding having a different number.
