Patents by Inventor William G. Boney

William G. Boney has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 4195191
Abstract: An improved isoparaffin/olefin HF alkylation process designed to function absent the commonly-utilized acid regenerator. Polymer products, formed during the alkylation reaction, are recovered with the normally liquid alkylate product, substantially free from HF, without effecting degradation in the product quality. In addition to enhanced economic considerations stemming from a reduction in equipment costs, the operational stability of the process is significantly improved.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 25, 1976
Date of Patent: March 25, 1980
    Assignee: UOP Inc.
    Inventor: William G. Boney
  • Patent number: 4018841
Abstract: Byproduct or waste gases, containing hydrogen fluoride from an HF-catalyzed aromatic alkylation process are contacted with a stream of alkylated aromatics essentially free from hydrogen fluoride. Hydrogen fluoride from the waste gases is absorbed within the alkylated aromatics and is returned to the process therewith. Resulting waste gases are of reduced hydrogen fluoride content, and the loss of hydrogen fluoride upon disposal of these gases is thereby reduced.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 13, 1975
Date of Patent: April 19, 1977
    Assignee: UOP Inc.
Inventors: Michael Z. Mikulicz, William G. Boney, Bipin V. Vora
  • Patent number: 4009222
Abstract: Byproduct or waste gases, containing hydrogen fluoride, from an HF-catalyzed hydrocarbon alkylation process are contacted with a stream of liquid hydrocarbon essentially free from hydrogen fluoride. Hydrogen fluoride from the waste gases is recovered within the liquid hydrocarbon and is returned to the process therewith. Resulting waste gases are of reduced hydrogen fluoride content, and the recovery of hydrogen fluoride is thereby increased.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: February 22, 1977
    Assignee: UOP Inc.
Inventors: Michael Z. Mikulicz, William G. Boney, Bipin V. Vora
  • Patent number: 3959402
Abstract: HF-containing vent gases, relief gases, CBM and polymers discharged from the alkylation zone of an HF alkylation process are contacted with water. Hydrogen fluoride is absorbed within the water, reacted with olefins, converted to organic fluorides and returned to the alkylation zone of the process. HF leaving the alkylation process in vent gases, relief gases, CBM and polymers is thereby recovered.

  • Patent number: 3953538
Abstract: A startup procedure for an alkylation process in which a stream of an olefinic material is mixed with an acid stream and polymerized to cause formation of a polymeric diluent for the high strength acid which is initially charged to the alkylation process. This quickly lowers the strength of the acid, which results in an improved alkylate quality, during the initial period of operation in which the prior art relies on the relatively slow natural buildup of alkylation reaction by-products as a diluent.
