Abstract: An adapter which can be used to enable a sucker rod to be rotated by tubing tongs includes a rod-mountable assembly comprising a sleeve in which the rod to be rotated is received, and a door which is mounted on the sleeve to rotate between an open position, wherein the rod can be received in the sleeve, and a closed position, wherein the rod-mountable assembly is held on the rod. Included in a preferred embodiment is a holding assembly adapted to be connected to the tubing tongs to hold a lower rod against rotation. A method of rotating a rod relative to a string of rods used in a well is also disclosed.
