  • Patent number: 4620133
Abstract: Compact deflection yoke in self-converging display system encircles adjoining segments of neck and funnel sectons of color picture tube having close beam spacing (200 mils) in electron gun to achieve low S-spacing dimension between converging beams in deflection center plane. Neck diameter is sufficiently large (1145 mils) to accommodate main focusing lens having major transverse dimension more than three and half times the beam spacing in the electron gun. Main focusing lens is formed between final focus electrodes having recessed apertures at juxtaposed ends. Walls of successive recesses have "racetrack"-like and "dogbone"-like contours. Asymmetric beam forming lenses provide each beam traversing the main focusing lens with asymmetric cross-section having relatively reduced vertical dimension.

  • Patent number: 4383233
Abstract: A television deflection yoke comprising a deflection coil made up of a plurality of wire turns. The coil is twisted to form a "Figure-8" pattern having two loops and a wire crossover region. The coil is then molded such that the two loops fit over a portion of a yoke core. The coil loop then forms active conductor portions of the deflection coil. Accurate coil winding distributions may be achieved during winding or forming of the coil without concern about core shape or dimensional variations.

  • Patent number: 4376924
Abstract: A self-converging color television display system utilizes a saddle-toroid deflection yoke. The length of the horizontal coil conductors adjacent the flared picture tube portion is limited to reduce stored energy. The length of the core also is limited and disposed longitudinally between the end turns of the horizontal saddle coils at a position to mitigate convergence trilemma as well as North-South pincushion distortion.

  • Patent number: 4376273
Abstract: A deflection yoke for a television receiver comprises a toroidally wound vertical deflection coil. The coil is wound with successive active conductor windings alternately disposed adjacent to two horizontal deflection return flux paths to eliminate induced voltage buildup in the vertical coils from the horizontal return flux. The coil may be wound with a double bias configuration to permit correction of vertical coma errors and side pincushion raster distortion.

  • Patent number: 4357586
Abstract: A self-converging deflection yoke having toroidally-wound vertical deflection coils incorporates a pair of magnetically permeable field formers mounted on either side of the yoke. The field formers shunt a portion of the external field flux to the vicinity of the electron gun assembly where they form a pincushion-shaped field which aids in vertical coma correction. In one embodiment, a yoke comprising planar-wound vertical coils incorporates both coma-correcting rear field formers and a pair of front crossarm assemblies for providing side-pincushion correction. The resultant yoke provides covergence of electron beams free of coma and side-pincushion distortion with reduced sensitivity to transverse motion. In another embodiment, similar results are obtained without the front crossarms by vertical deflection coil having a nonradial winding configuration.

  • Patent number: 4335366
Abstract: In a television receiver comprising a display system incorporating a kinescope having horizontal in-line electron beams and also incorporating a deflection yoke having toroidally-wound vertical deflection coils, where the kinescope utilizes a magnetically-permeable G3 focussing electrode in the electron guns to reduce deflection defocussing, an arrangement for correcting misconvergence of the electron beams caused by the magnetically-permeable G3 electrode comprises a pair of magnetically-permeable field formers disposed along and extending toward the rear of the yoke. The field formers are configured to collect a portion of the external fields generated by the vertical windings and direct those portions through the kinescope neck substantially at right angles to the electron beams in the vicinity of the exit end of the electron guns with a barrel-shaped transverse pattern.

  • Patent number: 4329671
Abstract: A television display arrangement includes a kinescope comprising a viewing screen, an in-line electron beam gun assembly for producing a plurality of electron beams and an envelope defining a neck, at one end of which the electron gun assembly is mounted. A deflection yoke is associated with the kinescope for producing astigmatic deflection fields for substantially converging the beams at all points on the viewing screen. The astigmatic fields have balanced nonuniformity functions with low peak excursions for reducing the sensitivity of the beam convergence to the position of the yoke relative to the electron beams, by which relative movement between the yoke and the kinescope does not substantially affect the convergence.

  • Patent number: 4231009
Abstract: A deflection yoke of the self-converging type uses pincushion-shaped horizontal deflection fields and barrel-shaped vertical deflection fields for converging three in-line electron beams and includes a first pair of magnets disposed near the top and bottom of the beam exit end of the yoke. Each magnet is poled to produce a field having the same polarity as the vertical deflection field during the interval in which the electron beam is deflected towards the magnet. A second pair of magnets is disposed at the top and bottom of the inside of the flared inner surface of the yoke at a generally central position between the beam entrance and beam exit ends of the yoke, each of which is poled for producing a field of a polarity opposite to that of the vertical deflection field when deflecting the beam towards the respective magnet. The first and second magnet pairs coact to correct North-South pincushion distortion without substantial effect on the convergence.

  • Patent number: 4228413
Abstract: A deflection yoke for deflecting the electron beam of a kinescope includes conductors, portions of which are saddle-wound and portions of which are toroidally wound for reducing the length of conductor required for deflection, for reducing losses due to leakage fields, or both.

  • Patent number: 4218667
Abstract: Vertical translation of a self-converging deflection yoke relative to an in-line TV kinescope may be necessary to achieve satisfactory raster distortion. The vertical translation of the yoke may cause a residual convergence error. The residual convergence error may be eliminated by means of first and second permeable tabs mounted on the yoke and arranged for simultaneous vertical adjustment.

  • Patent number: 4143345
Abstract: A deflection yoke of the self-converging type utilizing pincushion-shaped horizontal and barrel-shaped vertical deflection fields for converging three in-line electron beams includes magnets disposed near the top and bottom beam exit end of the yoke and respectively poled to produce flux of the same polarity as the vertical deflection field at the top and bottom portions of the raster. A second pair of magnets disposed inside the flared inner surface of the yoke at the top and bottom approximately at the center of the yoke length are respectively poled for producing flux which is of the opposite polarity of the vertical deflection field at the top and bottom portions of the raster, the two pairs of magnets cooperating with the deflection field for correcting North-South pincushion distortion with substantially no effect on the beam convergence.
