  • Patent number: 4495585
Abstract: Characteristics of undulating data having variations with oppositely directed peaks are displayed on a display having x and y axes. The consecutive, oppositely directed peak values of each variation are determined. Each variation is assigned to a coordinate position on the display so that the coordinate position in the x and y directions is respectively determined by the initial and final peak values of each variation. The variations having like initial and final peak values are accumulated so an indication of the accumulated variations is displayed on the coordinate positions of the display.

  • Patent number: 4350233
Abstract: A damping assembly for reducing wind-induced vibrations in elongated strures comprises a plurality of damping tubes suspended within the structure in end-to-end relationship so that the end portions of the damping tubes are disposed in abutting relationship with the inner surface of the structure. Each damping tube includes an elongated shell, vibration damping material such as sand filling the shell, and plug elements sealing the end portions of the shell. Rod elements are secured to the plugs to interconnect the damping tubes. In an alternative arrangement spacer elements are connected to the rods so that the damping tubes are supported at their end portions in an aligned relationship.

  • Patent number: 4086012
Abstract: A rotational energy absorbing coupling for shaft-to-shaft and shaft-to-crank applications such as a tiller arm for a steerable strut for hydrofoil ship using a plurality of shear pins spaced in a circular pattern. A first, inner disc is affixed to one shaft and has a circular repeating sequential pattern of a round hole, and a plurality of slots of increasing length all chamfered at the edges. At least a second disc or outer disc are connected to the other coaxial shaft or crank with extended arms and, when more than one is used are sandwiched over the first disc. These discs have a circular pattern of round holes chamfered at the edges and in register with the holes and the center of the slots of the inner disc. A plurality of axially aligned shear pins pass through all the aligned holes thus providing progressive bending of the shear pins due to the chamfered holes, then the shearing of the pins when an overload occurs.
