Abstract: A novel spiral membrane arrangement is disclosed comprising opposing elongate filtration membrane units, spiraled about a base axis and separated by a novel lattice separator having spaced apart elongate primary laths which form fluid passageways, bridged by cross laths arranged to form a plurality of fluid shears spaced along the passageways which divide, deflect and/or disrupt gross fluid flow through the passageway, directing fluid against the membrane surface and creating a self cleaning functionality which improves the efficiency and the life of the life of the membrane arrangement.

Abstract: An improved centrifugal pump is disclosed comprising a slip ring arranged around a central opening of a guidevane proximate the intake conduit shoulder of an impeller which is positioned, dimensioned and formed from a material sufficient to creat a lamellar interface between fluid movement on either side of the guidevane which retards the abrading effect of sheering forces at a point of critical clearance among the guidevane and the rotating impeller conduit shoulder.

Abstract: A portable ultrafiltration device is disclosed comprising a prefilter, pump, membrane filter cartridges, temperature sensors, pressure sensors, process interdiction and control means placed to detect temperature and pressure variations of a feed mixture being processed by the device, and means cooperating with said temperature and pressure means to interdict the operation of the device to prevent damage to the components. Provision is also made for an improved feed mixture pick-up tube comprising a sliding gate means for interdicting liquid pick-up from an oil/water feed mixture.

Abstract: An improved fluid pick-up assembly for the control of the flow of fluids upwardly through a pick-up tube from a fluid reservoir is disclosed comprising, a slidable tubular gate, disposed over a hollow tube having fluid inlet voids therein for fluid flow from said reservoir to said hollow tube, said gate sliding upwardly or downwardly over said inlet voids in response to a fluid level within said reservoir. Provision is also made for said fluid pick-up assembly in combination with an ultrafiltration device.
