  • Patent number: 7927492
Abstract: Provided is a filter assembly for a bioremediating catch basin. The filter assembly comprises a container having at least one inlet and at least one outlet; a carrier substance, such as a foam, which carries a microorganism capable of digesting hydrocarbons; and optionally an adsorbent material. The filter assembly also optionally has structures for overflow conditions which allow the exit of water, but not floating contaminants from the catch basin. Also provided is a replaceable cartridge for the filter assembly. Also provided is a method for bioremediation of polluted water.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 6, 2006
Date of Patent: April 19, 2011
Inventors: William E Baird, William I. Young
  • Publication number: 20090321351
Abstract: Bioremediation blanket including: top layer adapted to capture and remove material floating in water and to contain material removed from water on blanket and to allow hydrocarbons to flow through top layer to the interior of blanket; interior with microbes adapted to digest hydrocarbons and optionally containing support for the microbes and/or optionally containing material to absorb heavy metals present in interior layer; and bottom layer comprising monofilament woven layer adapted to release bioremediated water. Method for removing hydrocarbons from water by: providing bioremediation blanket; allowing water containing hydrocarbons to contact and penetrate the blanket; and allowing microbes within the blanket to digest the hydrocarbons.

  • Publication number: 20080138883
Abstract: A product for bioremediation, comprising a biodegradable carrier and a tablet or powder consisting essentially of microorganisms capable of digesting hydrocarbons, an inert material, and optionally trace oil in an amount sufficient to maintain the microorganisms in a dormant state, said microorganisms located entirely within said biodegradable carrier, and wherein the biodegradable carrier is directly in contact with the microorganisms.
