  • Patent number: 7796956
Abstract: A front-end architecture and processing method for a receiver in a multi-antenna, multi-band radio. Band-dependent components for multiple frequency bands are not duplicated in each receive chain. In one embodiment, a first receive chain includes band-dependent components for the first frequency band only. A second receive chain includes band-dependent components for the second frequency band only. The receive chains may be dedicated to particular antennas, or a switch may be utilized to route signals from different antennas to the different band-dependent components. Each receive chain may include band-independent components, or a single set of band-independent components may be utilized for the different receive chains by multiplexing the output of the band-dependent component sections.

  • Patent number: 7707592
Abstract: A mobile-terminal platform system having an application subsystem and an access subsystem. The access subsystem includes hardware and software for providing connectivity services. The application subsystem includes hardware and software for providing user application services. The application subsystem and the access subsystem communicate via a defined interface. Each of the application subsystem and the access subsystem are adapted to be independently scaled.

  • Patent number: 7113593
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing cryptographic computations employing recursive algorithms to accelerate multiplication and squaring operations. Products and squares of long integer values are recursively reduced to a combination of products and squares reduced-length integer values in a host processor. The reduced-length integer values are passed to a co-processor. The values may be randomly ordered to prevent disclosure of secret data.

  • Patent number: 5966654
Abstract: A recyclable cellular telephone is disclosed having an inner rigid cellular electronics supporting frame member surrounded by a replaceable outer cover. The telephone is acquired having a limited period of use. The electronics of the telephone operate to disable the telephone following expiration of the period of use. Following expiration of the period of use, the telephone is returned for refurbishment where the outer cover is stripped and replaced and the electronics tested before being recycled with a new period of use for an another acquisition. The cellular network supporting telephone operation also monitors the period of use, disabling telephone access to the network following expiration. Directory numbers are selectively assigned to the recyclable telephones from a pool of available numbers, with assigned numbers returned to the pool after expiration of a predetermined period or telephone deactivation for re-use by another recyclable telephone.

  • Patent number: 5715278
Abstract: A method and system for increasing the probability of receiving a message in mobile communication systems. The invention uses a synchronization pattern to determine the location of an intended message. In addition, the invention uses the CRC check status of several sample timing positions spanning an expected message location to determine whether to accept a message. The expected message location is based on the sample timings of previous messages which are determined from a histogram of how frequently various sample timing positions have been selected in the past.

  • Patent number: 5610497
Abstract: A battery transfer apparatus and method according to the present invention provides continuous battery power to a battery powered device while changing batteries. Battery power is provided to the battery powered device from a charged battery while a nearly discharged battery is removed from the battery powered device. Battery power is also provided to the battery powered device from the nearly discharged battery while the charged battery is inserted into the battery powered device. The nearly discharged battery may be prevented from draining power from the charged battery during the transfer operation. A battery charger and battery condition indicator may also be included.

  • Patent number: RE29188
Abstract: A control system for operation of the individual sections of a glassware forming machine includes a shaft position encoder associated with the mechanical drive for the feeder, and a digital computer for programming various events in the machine cycle in accordance with certain boundary event timings. The shaft encoder output is converted to binary coded decimal (BCD) form and is fed to the digital computer through a priority program which permits routine starting and stopping of the machine and its various sections, and which also includes manual means for setting up the desired cycle of operation for the various mechanisms associated with a given section and for later transferring these settings to the other sections of the machine with operation of each section being phase delayed in accordance with a predetermined "firing order". These settings can be revised during operation of the machine as a result of the program stored in the digital computer.
