Patent number: 9315139Abstract: When a boat is loaded onto a boat trailer, it is locked on by the automatic latching device and is held in the full forward position by the winch strap. The boat keel is now on top of the automatic latching device which compresses the spring on a T-shaped member and increases the contact surface pressure between the automatic latching device and the boat keel. Any vertical movement or bounce by the boat keel during transport compresses the spring and adds additional pressure between the two surfaces. The automatic latching device and the boat keel are now joined together in effect as a unitary unit and moves in that fashion one relative to the other wherein movement is essentially transferred to the elongated holes in the winch stand uprights. By eliminating any movement between the automatic latching device and the boat keel, surface marking of the keel has been eliminated. Further, any likely wear of the contacted portion of the automatic latching device will be less.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2014Date of Patent: April 19, 2016Inventor: William J. Hyslop

Publication number: 20150041741Abstract: The modification of a trailer tongue jack includes welding a telescoping section of tubing to a swivel. The telescoping section provides the desired height adjustment for the design of many trailers. A clevis unit is welded to the bottom of an inner tubing member for cooperation with a foot plate. With the tubing adjusted to the correct lift height and angled to the front or rear of the trailer, the user places the foot plate firmly on the support surface. Moving the trailer toward the foot plate lifts it off the support surface. The deflated tire can now be replaced with the spare tire. To lower the trailer, the user pulls the locator pin and turns it to the locator pin groove located on the top of the tubing. The trailer can now be lowered to the support surface by moving it forward or backward. Now return the unit to the storage horizontal position and release the swivel locking pin.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 23, 2014Publication date: February 12, 2015Inventor: William J. Hyslop

Patent number: 6598896Abstract: A latching mechanism for receiving a boat bow U-bolt includes a frame member with a receiving channel for receipt of the U-bolt. A pair of spring-biased latching members are attached to the frame member and arranged in a normally-closed condition and therein narrow the width of the receiving channel at an entrance location. The latching members are pivotally moveable to an open condition by the action of the U-bolt pushing against the latching members until the U-bolt enters the receiving channel. A release slide is included as part of the latching mechanism to allow the U-bolt to be released. The release slide is spring biased for movement from a load-launch orientation to a stowed orientation. The latching mechanism is designed to attach to a winch stand and includes two separate mounting connections for this purpose.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2002Date of Patent: July 29, 2003Inventor: William J.
