Patent number: 6142103Abstract: An animal tethering system to secure the tether of animal comprising of a frame which has a vertical arm and an extended horizontal arm. The horizontal arm is positioned by the attachment of two cables on either side holding it extended at a right angle from a vertical surface such as a wall or horse trailer. The animal tethering system is specifically designed to be mounted above the animals head. All structural supports to the animal tethering system have been incorporated into the design of the animal tethering system so as to provide a minimal opportunity for a horse or bovine to entangle its self in the tethering device.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1998Date of Patent: November 7, 2000Inventors: William J. Meyers, Jerome R. Young

Patent number: 6026748Abstract: A printing press having a plurality of laterally spaced printing stations is provided with an interstation dryer system, interposed between the printing stations, for effectively drying liquid printing substances, such as inks, coatings, and the like, on a moving printed sheet. The dryer system includes a plurality of infrared elements which are adapted to transmit infrared radiation toward the moving printed sheet to effectuate drying of liquid printing substances thereon and bonding thereto. In order to effectively dry a complete spectrum of ink colors and other liquid printing substances, the infrared elements comprise an alternating and repetitive series of shortwave infrared lamps and mediumwave infrared lamps which generate relatively short wavelength infrared radiation and relatively medium wavelength infrared radiation, respectively.Type: GrantFiled: November 11, 1997Date of Patent: February 22, 2000Assignee: Oxy-Dry CorporationInventors: Timothy R. Reed, William J. Meyer, Michael Van Epps, Dennis Hermann

Patent number: 5937159Abstract: A system and method for controlling the access of users to a trusted computer system using an authentication and authorization database, containing information used to authenticate human users and information establishing what each user can do, and a number of software processes, including session initiation, authorization, credentials and database management daemons. The software processes are implemented in an independent fashion to prevent any process from performing an operation that would affect another process in an unauthorized way.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1997Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Assignee: Data General CorporationInventors: William J. Meyers, Marc J. Fraioli, Jon F. Spencer

Patent number: 5713285Abstract: An apparatus and method of use for spraying powder on substrate which is particularly suited for use in conjunction with a printing press for automatically applying a fine powder onto printed sheets prior to delivery to a stacking station. The electrically controlled and motor driven apparatus comprises a pressurized air source, a powder hopper with a powder agitator contained therein, a brush unit which transfers powder from the powder hopper and, through the use of a flicker bar, mixes powder with air to create an air and powder mixture in a powder chamber. Pressurized air passing through a venturi upwardly vacuums this mixture and propels the air and powder mixture through a selectable series of pneumatic hoses to nozzles with an adjustable width of spray for spraying powder on printed sheets.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1995Date of Patent: February 3, 1998Assignee: Oxy-Dry CorporationInventors: Timothy R. Reed, William J. Meyer

Patent number: 5690783Abstract: A method for reorienting labels prior to their application, comprises moving containers through a packaging process, picking up labels with vacuum applicator heads, moving the labels by a translator mechanism to the containers at the same speed as that of the moving containers and simultaneously rotating applicator heads 90.degree. by means of a rack and pinion gear drive and stationary cam, entering the container where the labels are blown off the vacuum grid on the applicator heads and onto the inside of the containers and returning to the first position and continuously repeating the process.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 1997Date of Patent: November 25, 1997Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: William J. Meyers, Alex Saveliev

Patent number: 5450939Abstract: An apparatus (10) for sorting and transferring an object (1), such as wrapped photographic film, between two or more positions has a object holder (12) having a means for grasping and releaseably mounting the object (1) thereto. The object holder (12) is mounted for translational movement along a generally oval path (14). The object holder mounted to a first moving conveyance (16) moves in synchronization with a second moving conveyance (22), picks up the object (1) from the first moving conveyance (16), and then selectively sorts and releases the object (1) at one of several predetermined number of stations S.sub.1, S.sub.2, S.sub.3.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1993Date of Patent: September 19, 1995Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: William J. Meyers, Richard O. Toles, Steven P. Nicoll, Edward F. Gates

Patent number: 4785551Abstract: A method of drying a plurality of confection pieces, such as marshmallow bits, having a high volume density and outer surfaces which are adhesive at elevated temperature and moisture levels. A high volume density group of confection pieces at elevated moisture levels is heated while being fluidically transported with an air flow and while being vibrated until the moisture content thereof is reduced by one-half. The confection pieces are thereafter cooled with a cooler air flow, with the fluidized transport and vibration being continued throughout the cooling step.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1987Date of Patent: November 22, 1988Assignee: Kraft, Inc.Inventor: William J. Meyer

Patent number: 4162332Abstract: An improved method and apparatus are provided for economically producing meat analog products. According to the invention, at least one slurry comprising oil, water and coagulable protein is continuously mixed and layered. The layered slurry is heat set under moist heat to provide a cohesive mass without surface product drying. The heat set product is then sliced for marketing as is, or after subjecting it to varying degrees of frying. The preferred product is a partially fried bacon analog product.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1976Date of Patent: July 24, 1979Assignee: General Foods CorporationInventors: Boleslaw Sienkiewicz, William J. Meyer, Joseph Giacone

Patent number: 4096434Abstract: An automatic ranging clamp-on ammeter includes an openable normally closed magnetic core for encircling an A.C. current carrying cable has a measuring winding and a sensing winding. A current meter, a diode rectifier and a pair of variable first and second resistors are connected in series across the measuring winding. A relay solenoid is shunted by a Zener diode and is connected in series with a variable resistor across the sensing winding. A sensitivity reducing shunt variable resistor is connected through the relay normally open contacts betwen the junction of the first and second resistors and the meter opposite terminal. An audible signal generator may be connected across the shunt resistor. When the measured current exceeds a predetermined value the relay closes and inserts the shunt resistor across the meter to reduce the measuring sensitivity and increase its range and energizes the audible signal generator.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1976Date of Patent: June 20, 1978Assignee: A.W. Sperry Instruments, Inc.Inventor: William J. Meyer
