Patent number: 11916273Abstract: A rotary joint includes a shaft having a first end, a second end, and a cavity. The rotary joint includes a first waveguide section having a first proximal end and a first distal end. The first proximal end of the first waveguide section is positioned within the cavity and secured to the inner surface of the shaft. The rotary joint includes a second waveguide section that includes a second proximal end and a second distal end. The second proximal end of the second waveguide section is positioned within the cavity of the shaft and unsecured to the inner surface of the shaft to form a radial gap between an outer surface of the second proximal end and a laterally adjacent portion of the inner surface of the shaft. The shaft and the first waveguide section are configured to rotate about the rotational axis and relative to the second waveguide section.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 2020Date of Patent: February 27, 2024Assignee: Waymo LLCInventors: Zhe Li, Samuel Lenius, Chia-Hung Lin, Craig Moriwaki, William Martin Peters, Jr., Kelvin Kwong, Robert J. Patent number: 6293628Abstract: A preferred cutting head includes a first body having a manifold for containing high pressure fluid and an axis of rotation generally parallel to the borehole, a first plurality of mechanical bits disposed on the first body, a first plurality of nozzles disposed around the axis of rotation for spraying the high pressure fluid, and a plurality of tubes fluidly coupling the manifold and the first plurality of nozzles. On supplying high pressure fluid to the manifold and rotating the cutting head about the axis of rotation, the nozzles create a generally circular, overlapping pattern of high pressure fluid in front of the cutting head, the pattern of high pressure fluid being directed to cut the borehole independently of the mechanical bits.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1999Date of Patent: September 25, 2001Assignee: Amvest Systems Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey J. Schwoebel, Donald B. Sult, William J. Peters

Patent number: 6283277Abstract: A self-propelled, mobile articulated tramming haulage conveyor system includes a continuous series of individual cascading mined material haulage conveyors located over one or more long continuous chain, conveyor system tramming apparatus or flexible crawlers. For negotiation of corners or bends in a borehole, the frame on which the continuous chain, conveyor system tramming system is mounted is flexible.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1999Date of Patent: September 4, 2001Assignee: Amvest Systems? Inc.Inventors: Gregory W. Smith, Frank N. Kent, William J. Peters

Patent number: 5879057Abstract: A horizontal remote mining system comprising a water jet cutting head, down hole crusher, jet pump, and guidance system for orchestrating select excavation of a horizontal borehole. The system is assembled on the end of a drill string comprised of multiple compartments accommodating various water pressures and functions in association with the remote excavation process. Selective tubing is also utilized to facilitate movement of air and ventilation of the borehole. In this manner, relatively thin coal seams can be economically mined.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1996Date of Patent: March 9, 1999Assignee: Amvest CorporationInventors: Jeffrey J. Patent number: 4203253Abstract: Stimulation of oleoresin production associated with living cells can be chemically induced with dilute systemic application of ethylene or ethylene-releasing compounds. One such ethylene-releasing compound is 2-chloroethylphosphonic acid. A further increase in oleoresin production can be accomplished by using ethylene-releasing chemicals in combination with the bipyridilium salts, diquat or paraquat. Through the application of ethylene-releasing chemicals in combination with a bipyridilium salt, the effect of lightwood inducing chemicals is expanded over a larger portion of the treated tree, and more oleoresin is produced. Oleoresins are extracted from the trees by known methods, and the naval stores products are recovered therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1979Date of Patent: May 20, 1980Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of AgricultureInventors: Karl E. Wolter, William J. Peters, Donald R. Roberts, Robert D. McReynolds, Junior Broomfield, Ernest R. Crews

Patent number: 3986259Abstract: This invention relates to an improved portable powered tool for removing bark from living pine trees preparatory to inducing oleoresin flow by known chemical means. This tool utilizes a lightweight, chainsaw-type engine to power a specially designed set of blades partially enclosed in a housing designed to provide multiple guides for producing the type cut necessary to properly prepare a tree for collection of naval stores and to provide a method for discharging debris away from the operator and work area.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 1976Date of Patent: October 19, 1976Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of AgricultureInventors: Robert D.
