Publication number: 20230189468Abstract: A server rack is cabled to obviate the need for top-of-rack switches. Switches and severs are connected through de-mateable connection interfaces at distribution modules disposed along the raceway above the server cabinets. The distribution modules may have externally accessible ports, internally accessible ports, and/or payout spools for the switch cables and/or the server cables.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 2, 2022Publication date: June 15, 2023Inventors: John Paul Anderson, Jason Mikel Bautista, Paula Lockhart, Kamlesh G. Publication number: 20230088409Abstract: The invention is directed to the characterization of an optical channel, such as an optical fiber, in an optical network. The method includes calibrating a transmitter by measuring its transmitter and dispersion eye closure (TDEC, in the case of non-return to zero optical (NRZ) optical systems or transmitter and dispersion eye closure quaternary (TDECQ, in the case of 4-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM4) optical systems). That calibrated transmitter is used to characterize the optical channel being tested by providing a measure of its stressed eye closure (SEC) or stressed eye closure quaternary (SECQ). A loss deficit for the optical channel can be calculated by subtracting the SEC or SECQ value from the maximum TDEC or TDECQ value.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 12, 2021Publication date: March 23, 2023Applicant: COMMSCOPE TECHNOLOGIES LLCInventors: Earl R. PARSONS, William J. YOUNG

Patent number: 6898599Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for viewing reports on a network. One embodiment of the present invention employs a temporary database for holding data to be used in the reports, where the data extracted from a source database. A format module formats the reports using the data in the temporary database, and an access module allows users to access the reports created by the format module.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2001Date of Patent: May 24, 2005Assignee: Sun Microsystems, Inc.Inventors: William J. Patent number: 6873980Abstract: A system for querying a database. Query strings comprising queries from application program are loaded from a text file into a query lookups table. The application then utilizes a database interface query function to access the queries in the lookups table. The query function uses the query name provided by the application to locate the corresponding query string in the lookups table. The query function then performs parameter substitution on the query string and sends the query to the database. The query results are then retrieved, formatted, and sent to the querying application. The present invention allows an application program to access data stored on databases organized by various database management systems which employ different query formats. Although the databases organize the data differently, the same content may be extracted by the present system. Changes to the database queries take place outside the application code in a simple text file that is loaded by the querying application.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2000Date of Patent: March 29, 2005Assignee: Sun Microsystems, Inc.Inventors: William J. Young, Tricia M. Roush, Bruce R. Geerdes

Patent number: 6601488Abstract: A low-profile cutter assembly for use on a microscope and related cutting method are provided. The cutter assembly includes a support subassembly having a mounting ring for receiving and engaging the objective of a microscope. A cutter subassembly carried by the support subassembly is displaceable between a home and a forward position in response to actuation. Upon reaching the forward position, additional actuation causes the front end of the cutter subassembly to pivot toward the stage, thereby placing a cutter adjacent to or in contact with the specimen. By selectively actuating the cutter subassembly, multiple cuts may be performed, as necessary or desired for cutting a spore or isolating a particular specimen.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2000Date of Patent: August 5, 2003Assignee: University of Kentucky Research FoundationInventors: Richard R. Muse, Lisa J. Vaillancourt, William J. Young

Publication number: 20030028555Abstract: The present invention provides a method for database migration. It migrates a database in one single bulk migration without the loss of any data. It can accomplish bulk migration because it uses a wrapper script, which is a single instruction given at the command line, that automates, in succession, all the scripts required for the migration. Because the present invention migrates the entire database in one bulk, it uses very little system downtime. This is unlike prior art database migration schemes which may use not only a lot of system downtime, but requires the presence of a user during the entire migration. Because the present invention can be customized to work on various database models including production database models, it is an ideal database migration process, which various DBAs can use without the need to either alter their database, or change the procedure for the migration.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 31, 2001Publication date: February 6, 2003Inventors: William J. Young, Janice L. Platt

Patent number: 5942321Abstract: A headliner is a laminate of multiple layers. The layers include polyurethane foam, agricultural fibers, a decorative material, and a backing. The agricultural fiber is jute, sisal, or kenaf or mixtures thereof. The method of making the headliner laminate includes making the sheet of agricultural fibers incorporating a binder, saturating a foam layer with an adhesive, putting one sheet of agricultural fibers on each side of the foam layer, applying the decorative material and backing to one side each, and squeezing the layers together to distribute the adhesive to all the layers and laminate them.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1997Date of Patent: August 24, 1999Assignee: Findlay Industries, Inc.Inventors: Floyd E. Patent number: 5543234Abstract: A molded wood composite article man-made from wood fibers or wood particles on at least an upper, molded surface of the article, and a method of manufacturing the article to include a relatively uniform density, detailed design contours and textured aesthetics on one or more molded depression-interior inclined surfaces, while preventing embrittlement, softness and blistering of the article along the depression-interior inclined surfaces. These attributes are achieved by molding one or more depressions into an initially planar layer of cellulosic material, wherein the molded depressions have one or more inclined walls that have upper surfaces, along essentially an entire inclined span, that include detailed design contours, including adjacent curved and planar portions, e.g., bead and cove.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1994Date of Patent: August 6, 1996Assignee: Masonite CorporationInventors: Steven K.
