Patent number: 11698305Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically measuring and storing a various measured values of an item, or a sequence of measured values of one or more item(s) suitable for single-handed use by a user. In particular, the present invention relates to a mobile computing device with one or more sensors for determining when to measure and record a particular value of one or more items. The mobile computing device may automatically measure the values based on sensing a change in the temperature value or through using proximity as detected by one or more onboard sensors. Additionally, the mobile computing device may automatically measure the values based on coming within range of an external proximity device. In response to automatically measuring the values, the measured values are stored along with additional information for record keeping purposes.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2020Date of Patent: July 11, 2023Assignee: Squadle, Inc.Inventors: Le Zhang, William K. Chen

Patent number: 9998994Abstract: A method and system for using a communication protocol over a low-powered transmission network. The communication system and protocol enables low-powered transmission devices to efficiently and reliably transmit data in challenging environments. The communication system and protocol can reduce power consumption by designating devices as either transmitter devices, repeater devices, and receiving devices, such that not all devices in the network need to be configured to transmit and receive data. Because the communication protocol does not require that all devices need to both transmit and receive data, there is a significant power usage savings relative to traditional mesh networks. Additionally, the present invention implements a combination of time-based diversity and transmission path diversity to more reliably communicate data. Devices in the system can change the manner in which they operate based on the sensor measurements, allowing the devices to intelligently respond to different conditions.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2016Date of Patent: June 12, 2018Assignee: Squadle, Inc.Inventors: Le Zhang, William K. Publication number: 20160059946Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for measuring metrics related to a person operating a paddling instrument. Upon receipt of motion sensor data received from a plurality of motion sensors attached to the paddling instrument, an application, executed in a computing device, can determine which side of a boat the person is paddling on, when the person starts the paddle stroke and ends the paddle stroke, and the angles of the paddle at the beginning and end of the stroke. As such, these metrics assist the person in determining their paddling efficiency and may aid the person in improving their paddling skills.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 25, 2015Publication date: March 3, 2016Inventor: William K.
