Abstract: A lamp assembly (10) comprising: a lamp (20) having a glass envelope (22) containing a gaseous fill at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure and a seal (24) comprising a substantially parallelepipedonal structure having two oppositely disposed long sides (26, 28) and two oppositely disposed short sides (30, 32); and a retainer (50) engaging the seal (24), the retainer (50) including four pressure points (52), two on each of the long sides (26, 28) with an indent separating each pair of the long side pressure points.

Abstract: An electric lamp includes a light-transmissive lamp envelope defining an enclosed volume, the lamp envelope having a press seal at one end thereof and the press seal having a recess along a bottom edge thereof, at least one lamp filament disposed in the enclosed volume of the lamp envelope, electrical leads extending through the press seal on opposite sides of the recess and connected to the lamp filament, and an exhaust tube extending through the recess in the press seal to the enclosed volume of the lamp envelope. An insulating base is typically secured to the press seal. The exhaust tube located in the recess is at least partially shielded against breakage.

Abstract: A focusable lamp having lamp capsule, coupler, and a base is disclosed. The capsule is formed with rigid leads. The capsule and coupler are further formed to allow capsule to be held in the coupler and still focused with respect to the coupler. The coupler also includes an internally projecting tab that is sufficiently near one lead that despite movement of the lead during focusing, the gap between the lead and tab may be bridged by solder to thereby electrically and mechanically fix the lamp capsule to the coupler. The coupler and second lead are further aligned and connected to a base. No cement is needed to position the lamp capsule.
