  • Patent number: 4247526
Abstract: Dicalcium phosphate dihydrate containing a sufficient amount of trimagnesium phosphate and/or tetrasodium pyrophosphate to inhibit spontaneous hydrolysis and/or decomposition of the dicalcium phosphate dihydrate is widely used as a dental polishing agent with and without added fluoride. Now it has been found that dicalcium phosphate dihydrate containing a sufficient amount of pyrophosphate to provide hydrolytic stability to the dicalcium phosphate can have improved fluoride stability when about 0.1 weight percent to about 5 weight percent of trimagnesium phosphate, and about 0.1 weight percent to about 3 weight percent of at least one pharmaceutically acceptable condensed phosphate salt is added to the formulation. In the preferred embodiment less than 2 percent sodium tripolyphosphate provides satisfactory results.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: January 27, 1981
    Assignee: Monsanto Company
Inventors: William M. Jarvis, Keun Y. Kim
  • Patent number: 4244931
Abstract: Dicalcium phosphate dihydrate containing a sufficient amount of trimagnesium phosphate and/or tetrasodium pyrophosphate to inhibit spontaneous hydrolysis and/or decomposition of the dicalcium phosphate dihydrate is widely used as a dental polishing agent with and without added fluoride. Now it has been found that dicalcium phosphate dihydrate containing a sufficient amount of pyrophosphate to provide hydrolytic stability to the dicalcium phosphate can have improved soluble fluoride stability when at least 0.1 weight percent of trimagnesium phosphate and a pharmaceutically acceptable polyphosphate salt are each added to the formulation. In the preferred embodiment, less than 2 percent pentasodium tripolyphosphate provides satisfactory results.

  • Patent number: 4193973
Abstract: An improved process for the preparation of stabilized dicalcium phosphate dihydrate wherein an aqueous mixture containing dicalcium phosphate dihydrate is treated with a tetra-alkali metal pyrophosphate which comprises(a) adding a stabilizing amountof the tetra-alkali metal pyrophosphate to said aqueous mixture at a pH from about 5.5 to about 6.5 for said mixture; and then(b) adding to the mixture resulting from Step (a) a pharmaceutically acceptable material which increases the hydroxyl ion content in the mixture, in an amount which results in a stabilized dicalcium phosphate dihydrate having a pH from about 6.5 to about 8.0.
