  • Publication number: 20190254299
Abstract: This invention is based on unexpected synergistic effect of a cyclopropene compound and a modified atmosphere package to extend shelf life and/or storage for avocados. Provided is a method of storing avocados comprising the step of exposing avocados to an atmosphere that contains a cyclopropene compound, wherein either (a) the avocados are in a modified-atmosphere package during exposure to the cyclopropene compound, or (b) the avocados are placed into a modified-atmosphere package after exposure to the cyclopropene compound, and the avocados remain in the modified atmosphere package for at least two hours. In some embodiments, the modified-atmosphere package is constructed so that the transmission rate of oxygen for the entire package is from 200 to 40,000 cubic centimeters per day per kilogram of avocados.

  • Patent number: 9265268
Abstract: There is provided a method of storing bananas comprising the steps of (a) exposing said bananas to an atmosphere that contains one or more ethylene-active compound, and (b) after said step (a), exposing said bananas to an atmosphere that contains one or more cyclopropene compound while said bananas have color stage 2 to 6 on the seven-stage scale, wherein said bananas are kept in a modified-atmosphere package for a time period that includes at least a time interval that lasts for 1 hour, wherein said time interval begins between the conclusion of said step (b) and 72 hours from the conclusion of said step (b), and wherein said modified-atmosphere package is constructed so that the transmission rate of carbon dioxide for the entire package (PCT) is from 2,400 to 120,000 cubic centimeters per day per kilogram of bananas.

  • Publication number: 20130172191
Abstract: A method to inhibit the ethylene response in plants with cyclopropene compounds by first generating stable cyclopropane precursor compounds and then converting these compounds to the gaseous cyclopropene antagonist compound by use of a reducing or nucleophilic agent.
    Type: Application
    Filed: February 25, 2013
