  • Patent number: 9610696
Abstract: A clamping assembly includes a first jaw having a plurality of alternating grooves and lands formed thereon, a second jaw having a plurality of alternating grooves and lands formed thereon, and a spring provided between the first and second jaws. The jaws are pivotable relative to each other. The jaws are attached to a draw stud. The draw stud is formed from an elongated cylinder which has a conventional thread form formed on one end thereof and a plurality of alternating grooves and lands formed on the other end thereof. The alternating grooves and lands formed on the jaws mesh with the alternating grooves and lands formed on the draw stud to mate the jaws with the draw stud.

  • Patent number: 8770898
Abstract: An assembly includes a quick-release head, a tail piece and a flexible metal rod. The tail piece includes a shaft and a male coupler formed of a head, body, and flute. At least a portion of the male coupler head has a reduced outer dimension relative to an outer dimension of the body. When the male coupler is mounted in a second quick-release head or drill, a clearance space is provided between the reduced outer dimension portion and the second quick-release head or drill. During use, the assembly may undergo bending which results in significant forces applied in particular to the male coupler head. By providing the clearance space, these forces are predominantly shifted to the male coupler body, thereby reducing the likelihood that the male coupler head will shear from the remainder of the male coupler.

  • Patent number: 8647032
Abstract: A hole saw includes a depth stop for limiting the depth of penetration of the hole saw into a workpiece. The blade of the hole saw includes a plurality of slots, one of which is used to receive the depth stop. The depth stop is mounted to the blade by positioning a portion of the depth stop within the slot and sliding the depth stop from an unsecured position to a secured position. Once in the secured position, a locking member is moved within the depth stop to secure the depth stop in place. In use, the blade is advanced through the workpiece until the depth stop contacts the proximal surface of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 8057135
Abstract: An auger bit includes a shaft having a central axis, a cutting insert mounted to said shaft, and a feed screw that is separate from the cutting insert and which is mounted to the shaft. The cutting insert and the feed screw are engaged with each other. A single locking member, such as a set screw, secures the feed screw member to the shaft, and thereby secures the cutting insert to the shaft. If the feed screw or the cutting insert become worn, feed screw or the cutting insert can be replaced.

  • Publication number: 20060016312
Abstract: A knockout punch is provided with a member such that when the punch and the die are drawn together by the draw stud to make a hole in a workpiece, the member on the punch will locate the punch assembly in a pilot hole. In three embodiments of the invention, the member is formed integrally with the punch and extends from the punch proximate to a bore in the punch which is used to connect the punch to the draw stud. In another embodiment of the invention, the member is provided as an insert which is connected to the punch within a counterbore. The punch is also provided with a pair of piercing portions for piercing through the workpiece after the member has centered the punch assembly with the pilot hole and a pair of cutting portions for shearing the workpiece after the piercing portions have pierced the workpiece.

  • Publication number: 20050084350
Abstract: An embodiment of a spade bit has straight grooves at a lead angle of 4 to 8 degrees placed on flat edges of the spade bit. In an alternative embodiment, a spade bit has two steps of straight grooves at a lead angle of 4 to 8 degrees placed on flat edges of the spade bit. In other alternative embodiments, a spade bit has tapered flat edge which have straight grooves at a lead angle of 4 to 8 degrees placed thereon. The straight grooves on the flat edges of the spade bits allow the spade bit to pull itself through the workpiece with a minimal amount of penetration. The flat edges of the spade bit may also have cutting surfaces for cleaning the hole and permitting the easy removal of the spade bit from the hole after drilling.
