  • Patent number: 8206470
Abstract: In one embodiment, a fluid mixture composition is used at least in part as a fuel for engine-powered transportation vehicles, the mixture comprising an initial concentration of an ammonia-like reductant component and an initial concentration of an ammonia-like carrier component. The mixture may also include an optional third hydrocarbon component, e.g., gasoline or diesel fuel, with modified properties when compared to conventional gasolines or diesel fuels. The mixture is separated into a first and a second stream, with the majority of the first stream being used as a fuel for the engine and at least a first portion of the second stream being injected into the engine exhaust gases to reduce NOx emissions. A second portion of the second stream is aspirated into the engine and a lean air/fuel ratio may be used to improve fuel efficiency.

  • Patent number: 5355967
Abstract: A method for rotary drilling and removing cuttings provides a underbalanced drilling fluid pressure at the drilling face but overbalanced pressure in the wellbore. The preferred method uses a rotary drill within a housing which also encloses a jet pump which draws and pressurizes the cuttings and drilling fluid, a separator of the cuttings and a portion of the pressurized drilling fluid, and a nozzles to supply separated and reduced pressure drilling fluid back to drilling face while the cuttings and remaining pressurized drilling fluid flows up towards the surface. The method avoids overpressure strengthening of the drill face and underpressure damage to the wellbore.

  • Patent number: 5005649
Abstract: The present invention achieves a more reliable multiple fracturing of a subterranean formation by inserting high pressure tubing and isolating a portion of the wellbore (including the formation of interest and an end portion of the tubing) with packers. Near the end of the tubing is a closable end and a rupturable plenum holding a sufficient volume of pressurized gas to produce a pressure ramp sufficient to cause multiple fractures in the isolated portion when the plenum is ruptured. The closable end is closed after filling the isolated portion with a fracture fluid and proppant. The rupturable means is provided by at least one rupture disc. Multiple discs can provide a step wise pressure rise ramp to tailor the multiple fracture producing pulse. By providing a known volume of pressurized gas and rupture discs, a controlled pulse loading can be achieved.
