Publication number: 20220088309Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices are disclosed for facilitating injection of a medicament using an automatic injection device. The automatic injection device includes a housing defining a confined inner space and having a length extending from a proximal end to a distal end along a longitudinal axis. A helical biasing member, or spring, is disposed in the confined inner space, and the spring has an inner diameter at a middle portion that is greater than an inner diameter at the terminal ends of the spring. A syringe plunger has a second bifurcated end extending into an inner bore of the spring. The bifurcated end includes two flexible arms that are able to flex inwardly and outwardly relative to the longitudinal axis within the inner bore of the spring while maintaining an annular gap between the syringe plunger and the spring.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 3, 2021Publication date: March 24, 2022Inventors: Sherwin S. Shang, Esra Ozdaryal, Eduard N. Tsvirko, Edwin Chim, David A. Post, William P. Szechinski, Shubha Chethan Somashekar, Ryan Brumund

Patent number: 9561328Abstract: Exemplary embodiments provide a syringe plunger formed of a polymeric material. The syringe plunger includes a pressurizer disposed at a proximal end, and a distal end bifurcated into a first plunger arm having a first conical surface and a second conical surface, and a second plunger arm having a first conical surface and a second conical surface. The distal end includes a first contact surface defined by the first conical surface of the first plunger arm and the first conical surface of the second plunger arm, the first contact surface configured to initially contact a firing engagement mechanism, the first contact surface disposed at a first angle of between about 40° and about 80° relative to a longitudinal axis of the syringe plunger.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2013Date of Patent: February 7, 2017Assignee: ABBVIE BIOTECHNOLOGY LTDInventors: Sherwin S. Shang, Esra Ozdaryal, Marc M. Plew, William P. Szechinski

Publication number: 20120233834Abstract: Exemplary embodiments provide automated assembly systems, devices and methods for assembling components for use in forming an automatic injection device. Exemplary assembly systems monitor, in real time, the frictional forces experienced as a plurality of components are assembled. The detected forces are used in providing real-time feedback to automatically control the assembly process and to determine whether the components are assembled properly.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 19, 2012Publication date: September 20, 2012Applicant: ABBOTT BIOTECHNOLOGY LTD.Inventors: William P. Szechinski, Kenneth E. Howard
