  • Patent number: 7280133
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for queuing and presenting audio messages in a communication system comprising an audio controller and audio message computer software. The audio controller receives overlapping audio messages that have portions that have been simultaneously received by the audio controller. The audio controller separately stores the audio messages in a queue in an audio buffer and then sequentially plays the messages. The audio controller may delay playing an audio message for a predetermined period of time or until the audio controller receives a control signal from a user. The user may select an audio message to be played from a list that displays the names of the senders of the audio messages. The audio controller may obtain a timestamp from a video program and associate an audio message to be played with the video program.

  • Patent number: 6944877
Abstract: There is disclosed an addressable advertising system comprising: 1) receiver circuitry for receiving an incoming television signal from an external source, generating a original baseband video signal, and transmitting the original baseband video signal to a display associated with the addressable advertising system; 2) a local storage device coupled to the receiver circuitry for storing a plurality of replacement video advertisements; and 3) an advertisement controller coupled to the receiver circuitry and the local storage device for detecting a first swap control signal transmitted in the incoming television signal. In response to the detection of the first swap control signal, the advertisement controller causes the receiver circuitry to receive from the local storage device a first selected replacement video advertisement from which the receiver circuitry generates a replacement baseband video signal and transmits the replacement baseband video signal to the display.

  • Publication number: 20030066091
Abstract: A system and method for enabling a consumer, in a television or audio broadcast environment, to access specific enhanced services, for example, interactive advertisements embedded in television programs, based on a contract between a product vendor and a video receiver manufacturer. The video receiver manufacturer is the TV or set-top box manufacturer, licensee or affiliated party. Purchasing transactions, including billing, are automatically managed by a data aggregator.

  • Publication number: 20020138165
Abstract: For use in an audio playback device capable of recording and playing audio selections, there is disclosed a system and method for recording and playing audio selections in response to user instructions. The system comprises an audio selection controller that is capable of receiving user instructions to record audio selections, identifying audio selections, and recording audio selections on a storage device. The system determines how many times an audio selection is authorized to be played. An audio selection that is not authorized to be played is deleted from the storage device or disabled from playing until an authorization to play the audio selection is received. The system is capable of responding to user instructions to increase or decrease the number of times a particular audio selection is to be played.

  • Publication number: 20020071031
Abstract: A system for monitoring the activity of an object at a remote location, includes a consumer electronic appliance having a first input for receiving data indicative of a program and a second input for receiving data indicative of the activity of the object. An activity sensor placed at the remote location senses the activity of the object and transmits data indicative of the activity to the second input of the consumer electronic appliance. The consumer electronic appliance may include an activity detector that measures the activity of the object in the object data. The activity detector may automatically cause the consumer electronic appliance to present the activity of the object if the measured activity meets a predetermined activity threshold. The consumer electronic appliance may also enable the user to momentarily observe the activity of the object or continuously monitor the activity of the object.
