  • Patent number: 9595041
Abstract: In an internet based system, a method of ranking products includes storing and outputting data identifying a plurality of suggested paradigms. The suggested paradigms each includes a set of suggested weighting factors that represent a specific consumer preference. A consumer selects one of the suggested paradigms and further inputs a set of weighting factors that includes at least one of the suggested weighting factors from the selected paradigm. The consumer thereafter inputs a query related to a product that is received by a server. A server generates and returns a ranking of a plurality of products based on the set of weighting factors input by the consumer and stored data related to a plurality of products, as a response to the query.

  • Publication number: 20120233087
Abstract: In a consumer information system, a method of comparing products and services including providing product specific information, providing merchant specific information on the specified product, providing merchant specific business information, providing product specific information collected by third parties, providing merchant specific information collected by third parties, applying weighting factors to the information provided, producing an aggregate value for each merchant based on the weighting factors as applied to the information provided, and producing a ranking of the merchants offering the specified product based on the aggregate value for each merchant. The system provides for consumers to select a set of standardized weighting factors or to modify the standardized weighting factors or to create their own weighting factors. The system provides detailed information to consumers on the breakdown of factors influencing the rating.

  • Patent number: 7945571
Abstract: A machine-implemented search method comprises inputting a search query from a user, and before the query is executed, inputting from the user a weighting factor that has a specified relationship to the query. The method further includes initiating a search by causing the query to be applied according to the weighting factor, and returning a result of the search to the user. The weighting factor may represent, for example, a weight to be given to one of multiple information sources that are available to be searched in response to the query, such as an online search engine or a merchant online commerce web site. Alternatively, the weighting factor may represent a weight to be given to a term in the query.

  • Publication number: 20090138329
Abstract: An online commerce information system (OCIS) receives from a consumer a query in relation to a potential consumer transaction and also receives a set of weighting factors that correspond to the query, where the weighting factors pertain to stored data relevant to the potential consumer transaction. The OCIS causes a result of applying the query and the weighting factors to the stored data to be communicated to the consumer, in response to the query. The OCIS also selects an advertisement to be communicated to the consumer based on at least one of the weighting factors, and causes the selected advertisement to be communicated to the consumer.
