  • Patent number: 8614739
Abstract: Apparatus for analyzing fluid or surfaces within a pipeline or vessel includes a probe positioned to capture or record images through a viewing port of the pipeline/vessel and an illumination assembly arranged to illuminate the fluid/surfaces within the pipeline/vessel adjacent the port with visible, infrared or ultraviolet light of a predetermined wavelength or within a predetermined range of wavelengths. Depending upon the type of fluid, light or radiation of a particular wavelength may be required to capture an image of high contrast and clarity. Accordingly, an electronic controller communicates with the probe and the illumination assembly for automatically controlling operation thereof so that images are captured and recorded of the fluid illuminated with light of different predetermined wavelength or predetermined range of wavelengths.

  • Patent number: 8085828
Abstract: A portable laser source includes a flash lamp assembly defining a hollow central channel, an elongate laser rod extending within the hollow channel for receiving a flash of light emitted by the surrounding flash lamp assembly, and a hermetically-sealed enclosure housing both the flash lamp assembly and the laser rod and including at least one optical transmission window for transmitting a laser beam emitted by the laser rod. Preferably, the flash lamp assembly is hermetically-sealed from the laser rod within the enclosure to maintain physical and electrical isolation of the laser rod from combustible and electrically conductive components of the flash lamp assembly. The combustible component of the flash lamp assembly can include Zr wool and an accelerant, or like materials for emitting a flash of light. The laser source can include a second window used to test the condition of the laser rod via application of an external test light to activate the laser rod within the sealed enclosure.

  • Publication number: 20090040866
Abstract: A water bath for laboratory use capable of two mixing motions is disclosed. Master magnets are mounted on eccentric shafts turned in a circular orbit by an electric motor beneath the bath. Slave magnets are mounted on a basket within the bath. The basket rides on spherical bearings within the bath. The bearings are received within tracks on the basket. A first set of the tracks are linear. A second set of the tracks are endless. When the bearings are received in the linear tracks, the basket moves in linear reciprocal motion in response to motion of the master magnets. When the bearings are received in the endless tracks, the basket moves in an orbit in response to motion of the master magnets. The tracks and the bearings are positioned so that a particular motion may be selected by orienting the basket within the bath.

  • Publication number: 20070204623
Abstract: A process for increasing the specific output of a combined cycle power plant and providing flexibility in the power plant rating, both without a commensurate increase in the plant heat rate, is disclosed. The present invention demonstrates that the process of upgrading thermal efficiencies of combined cycles can often be accomplished through the strategic use of additional fuel and/or heat input. In particular, gas turbines that exhaust into HRSGs, can be supplementally fired to obtain much higher steam turbine outputs and greater overall plant ratings, but without a penalty on efficiency. This method by and large defines a high efficiency combined cycle power plant that is predominantly a Rankine (bottoming) cycle. Exemplary embodiments of the present invention include a load driven by a topping cycle engine, powered by a topping cycle fluid which exhausts into a heat recovery device.

  • Patent number: 5482291
Abstract: A dart board apparatus including a housing having a spider located therein. The spider is generally circular in shape and has a series of circumferentially and radially extending ribs which define a plurality of target segment openings, and a circumferential center rib which defines a center opening. A plurality of target segments are slidably disposed in the target segment openings. An annular outer bull segment, having a target surface with a center opening, and a generally tubular sidewall with at least two slots therethrough, is also provided. The outer bull is slidably disposed for movement within the center opening in the circumferential center rib. An inner bull segment is slidably disposed within the center opening in the outer bull segment. The inner bull segment includes at least two spokes, in an aligned position with the slots in the outer bull segment sidewall.
