  • Patent number: 9404441
Abstract: A fuel manifold for a thrust chamber assembly includes a main fuel chamber which is generally frustro-conical in shape. The main fuel chamber provides a resonance frequency that is different than an acoustic resonance frequency of a combustion chamber.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 18, 2008
Date of Patent: August 2, 2016
Assignee: AEROJET ROCKETDYNE OF DE, INC.
Inventors: William S. Brown, Thomas M. Walczuk, Rodney Noble, Frederick Dodd
  • Patent number: 9347399
Abstract: A laser beam is utilized to ignite the fuel and oxidizer injected into a combustion chamber. An injector has a plurality of injector elements each injecting fuel and oxidizer into a flame holding zone adjacent the injector face plate where fuel and oxidizer are mixing at a rate to sustain flammability. The laser beam is introduced parallel to the injector face plate passing through the fuel and oxidizer mixing zones igniting the propellants. The propellants are ignited by having a laser beam tuned to a frequency to excite the oxidizer such that it will chemically combine with the fuel to form an ignition kernel in the flame holding zone. When a plurality of injector elements are ignited in this manner a controlled ignition process in the combustion chamber is achieved.

  • Patent number: 9255549
Abstract: A laser ignition device is used for igniting propellants in a rocket engine. The laser ignition device has an injector housing with passages for flowing gaseous hydrogen and liquid oxygen to injector elements which mix the hydrogen and oxygen in a combustion chamber. A laser ignition system assembly is inserted through the housing. The propellants in the housing keep the housing and the laser ignition system assembly cool. A laser beam entering the laser ignition system assembly via a fiber optic cable passes though a lens for diverging the laser beam and a second lens for converging the beam. A portion of the laser ignition system assembly extends beyond the injector housing face plate into the combustion chamber of the rocket engine.

  • Publication number: 20100037590
Abstract: A fuel manifold for a thrust chamber assembly includes a main fuel chamber which is generally frustro-conical in shape. The main fuel chamber provides a resonance frequency that is at least an order of magnitude lower than an acoustic resonance frequency of a combustion chamber.

  • Publication number: 20040128646
Abstract: A system for consolidating project development data from a plurality of project development work groups. The invention includes a plurality of data sources providing project development data in native formats from the project development work groups. At least some of the native formats are dissimilar enough to prevent direct data sharing between at least some of the data sources. The system also includes a data bus connected to the data sources for transferring data in a universal format and a plurality of interfaces connected to the data bus and the data sources for converting data from the data sources native formats into the universal format. A data pool connected to a data bus serves as a reference for the entire enterprise data where all the providers and consumers of the data are connected to the data bus. A data manager connected to the data pool provides all the administrative functions for the data pool.

  • Patent number: 6302867
Abstract: A kit for disposing of a contaminated I.V. needle and delivering adhesive wound dressings to a patient with preferably a single gloved hand includes an adhesive mounting substrate to attach the apparatus to an available surface. An adhesive needle sheath carrier extends from the base of the apparatus for securing a needle and needle sheath for disposal following use. To the base of the apparatus are releasably adhered a wound barrier and taping strips to aid in securing a catheter to a patient. Tabs are provided on the wound barrier and taping strips to facilitate their removal from the base of the apparatus. The apparatus allows a medical technician to insert a catheter into a patient and maintain pressure on the catheter at the wound site with one hand, while disposing of the contaminated needle and then securing the catheter with wound dressings, all with preferably a single gloved other hand, thereby reducing the incidence of infection or injury.
