    Abstract: Electronic alignment of paper feeding components in a machine such as an electrophotographic copier machine is achieved by placing an original master containing vernier calibrations on the document glass and a target master containing vernier calibrations in the copy paper bin. Thereupon, the machine is operated to produce a copy of the original master onto the target master producing a double set of vernier calibrations on the target master, which, when compared, provides information relating to skew angle, side edge relationship and leading edge alignment of the image to the copy paper. The vernier calibrations provide data which are keyed into a microprocessor controlled copy feeding servo mechanism to correct copy paper position and remove misalignment. The operation is repeated for various combinations of paper feed paths with techniques of original document placement and for duplex operation so that the copy paper matches image position for all modes of copier operation.

    Abstract: A compact single bin finisher adaptable to form collated sets of copy sheets outputted from a copier/duplicator. The finisher includes an output tray adapted to support the collated sets and to support copy sheets during accumulation of a set. A set accumulation module having an accumulation platform is disposed in a plane which is displaced both horizontally and vertically from the output tray. A transport device carries sheets into the accumulation module. A predetermined number of sheets form a set which may be stapled and is ejected onto the output tray.

A rotary wave generator is disposed to rotate about the pivot point. The rotary wave generator periodically contacts a topmost sheet in the stack and shingles (that is separates) the sheet from the stack. The shingled sheet is fed into a paper sheet aligner and into the processing station.

    Abstract: Device for separating and feeding sheets in seriatim from a stack to a processing station. The device includes a pin which periodically contacts and forms a pivot point on the stack. A rotary wave generator is disposed to rotate about the pivot point. The rotary wave generator periodically contacts a topmost sheet in the stack and shingles (that is separates) the sheet from the stack. The shingled sheet is fed into a paper sheet aligner and into the processing station. A variable or ramped force and/or a variable velocity is applied to the shingler. The force and/or velocity begins at a relatively low value and increases until a sheet is sensed downstream from the stack. This enables the feeding of a wide range of paper types and weights.

    Abstract: Error recovery due to bin overflow in a document reproducing system such as an integrated copier system having a Cycling Automatic Document Feed (CADF), a multibin collator module and a bin unloading mechanism, is effectuated by attaching one or more spare bins or a second collator module and a controller to the reproducing system. Overflow copies from the multibin collator are loaded into the second collator module. A collated set of copies are formed by combining copies from the multibin collator and the second collator module.

    Abstract: A record storage apparatus consisting of a stack of co-rotating spaced apart flexible record storage disks are stabilized by circumferentially uniform radially outwardly flowing air under a quiescent operating condition. The record storage disks are normally in a parallel relationship. To form a transducing access opening, the disks are axially partially moved to create an enlarged interstice between two of the record storage disks for enabling a transducer to reach a recording surface on one of the two record storage disks. Disks adjacent to such access openings come closer together but should not touch. To avoid the touching and maintain stability, air flow between such more closely spaced disks is automatically adjusted as the disks approach each other.
