  • Publication number: 20100058320
Abstract: Mechanisms for determining the coherency of a console are described herein. A manifest may be used to check the installed software components, and their versions, to determine which user experience groups are coherent based upon the installed software packages and their versions. If the console has the required software components and their versions installed according to the manifest, providing for a coherent user experience group, the console may be set to an enhanced user experience level in which the coherent user experience groups, or features, are enabled. The console may be set at various user experience levels depending upon which user experience groups are coherent. For example, if no user experience groups are coherent, the console may be set at a “core”, basic, or default user experience level.

  • Patent number: 7574537
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer program product are disclosed in a data processing system for migrating data pages subject to DMA access by temporarily disabling selected DMA operations within a physical I/O adapter. A determination is made as to whether to disable data access DMA capabilities of the physical I/O adapter. An operating mode of the physical I/O adapter is set to a particular mode utilizing a mode bit according to the determination of whether to disable data access DMA capabilities. Only data access DMA capabilities of the physical I/O adapter are disabled when the mode bit is set. Administrative services operations continue to be performed by the physical I/O adapter when the data access DMA capabilities of the physical I/O adapter are disabled.

  • Patent number: 7555002
Abstract: An aliased queue pair is provided within a logically partitioned data processing system for each logical partition for the single general services management queue pair that exists within a physical host channel adapter. Packets intended for the logical ports are received at the physical port. Multiple partitions exist within the data processing system. When one of these partitions needs to use one of the logical ports, a queue pair is selected. The queue pair is then associated with the logical port. The queue pair is configured as an aliased general services management queue pair and is used by the partition as if the aliased queue pair were the single general services management queue pair provided in the channel adapter.

  • Patent number: 7493409
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus, system and method for providing a generalized queue pair for use with host channel adapters of a system area network. With the apparatus, system and method, the hypervisor of a host channel adapter maintains a P_Key table for each logical port of the host channel adapter. When a request is received to allocate a queue pair from a requestor application associated with a logical port, a P_Key mode is set in a control register associated with the queue pair based on the type of requestor application that sent the request. Based on this P_Key mode, one or more P_Keys from a P_Key table associated with the logical port from which the request was received are written to one or more P_Key registers allocated to the queue pair. These P_Keys are then used to perform P_Key checks of incoming data packets. In addition, these P_Keys are inserted into headers of outgoing data packets.

  • Patent number: 7432506
Abstract: A method and apparatus for improving detection of radiation emitted from object that includes a radiation detection sensor with a substrate and an array of columns protruding from a top surface of the substrate. A radiation sensitive layer, such as TLC, and a thermal conversion material, such as an absorber, are disposed upon a top surface of the columns within the array thereby producing an array of radiation detectors. The columns provide thermal isolation between the radiation detectors and the substrate, and spatial separation of columns within the array provide radiant and thermal isolation between the radiation detectors upon the tops of individual columns. Producing an image of the array of radiation detectors allows detection of the radiation emitted from an object.

  • Patent number: 7283473
Abstract: An apparatus, system and method for providing multiple logical partitions in a system area network are provided Logical partitioning support is provided for host channel adapters which allows multiple operating systems to share the resources of a single physical host channel adapter (HCA). The apparatus, system and method ensures that each operating system is unaware that the HCA hardware resources are being shared with other operating systems and further guarantees that the individual operating systems are prevented from accessing HCA hardware resources which are associated with other operating systems.

  • Patent number: 7263700
Abstract: In a virtual machine environment, a method and apparatus for the use of multiple heaps to retain persistent data and transient data wherein the multiple heaps enables a single virtual machine to be easily resettable, thus avoiding the need to terminate and start a new Virtual Machine as well as enabling a single virtual machine to retain data and objects across multiple applications, thus avoiding the computing resource overhead of relinking, reloading, reverifying, and recompiling classes. The memory hierarchy includes a System Heap, a Middleware Heap and a Transient Heap. The use of three heaps enables garbage collection to be selectively targeted to one heap at a time in between applications, thus avoiding this overhead during the life of an application.
