  • Patent number: 6890429
Abstract: Systems and methods for treating waste water containing biological wastes such as animal waste generated in livestock-raising operations, wherein the waste water is subjected to a series of operations to separate solids from the liquid phase of the waste water and to biologically treat the waste water to break down organic components. The separated solids are stored for further treatment or conversion into useful materials. The treated liquid phase can be put to various uses. In one embodiment, the treated liquid is recycled as flush water for flushing animal waste from an animal barn, whereby little or no liquid phase escapes the system into the surrounding environment.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 18, 2003
Date of Patent: May 10, 2005
    Assignee: Hog Slat, Inc.

  • Patent number: 4981428
Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus for molding slotted concrete floor sections. The apparatus forms the concrete floor sections in an inverted position so as to avoid the need for hand finishing of the upper surface of the molded concrete floor sections. The apparatus comprises a base, opposing pairs of interconnected upstanding side and end walls connected to the base and a plurality of elongate spaced apart and substantially parallel ridges connected to and projecting upwardly from the base. Attached to and overlying the ridges are a plurality of elongate keystone shaped dividers removably mounted on and extending upwardly from the ridges with the upper surface being in a substantially common plane with the upper surfaces of the side and end walls.

  • Patent number: 4491087
Abstract: An animal feeder, with separate pivotally supported gates on each side thereof which are generally vertically adjustable by adjustment means readily accessible at each side of the apparatus for varying the size of the respective feed discharge openings, is provided with means for permitting enhanced agitation of the feed in the hopper and means for improving the control of feed from the hopper including means overlapping with the ends of the pivotally supported gates for preventing feed from the feeder storage hopper from flowing around the side ends of the gates, and also with locking means for many easily securing the gates in desired vertically adjusted positions while permitting increased agitation of the feed in the hopper.

  • Patent number: 4348987
Abstract: Concrete gang slats, that underlie and support thereon farrowing crates within a farrowing house, are provided with opposing elongate side openings in which elongate foraminous inserts are positioned to accommodate newborn pigs thereon in the overlying side pens of the respective farrowing crates. The foraminous inserts are constructed to facilitate the footing of newborn pigs in suckling so as to avoid abrasion of their knees while permitting their waste to readily pass through the inserts.

  • Patent number: 4306518
Abstract: An animal feeder apparatus is provided with a separate pivotally supported gate on each side thereof which is generally vertically adjustable by adjustment means extending above the feed storage bin of the apparatus so as to be readily accessible at each side of the apparatus for varying the size of respective feed discharge openings below opposite side walls of the storage bin.

  • Patent number: 4256057
Abstract: A reinforced concrete gang slat, for use as a section of the flooring of an animal shelter, such as a farrowing house for swine, wherein the gang slat is adapted to support thereon a farrowing crate confining a sow therein, and wherein the gang slat is provided with an opening in a rear portion thereof which underlies the rear portion of the farrowing crate and the sow therein and has a grate positioned therein, with the openings in the grate being sufficiently small so as to permit a litter of pigs to be born thereon and to walk thereon without injury as by their feet being caught in the openings of the grate, and wherein the openings in the grate are of sufficient size for readily permitting the sow's and the newborn pigs waste to pass therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4254737
Abstract: Slotted floor sections formed of reinforced concrete and commonly referred to as gang slats, are provided for underlying and serving as a floor for pig nursery pens and wherein conduit means are embeddedly built into respective end sections of the gang slats for circulation of a heated fluid therethrough for applying warmth to the pigs for promoting the health thereof and wherein the respective end sections are accessibly located adjacent the center aisle of the nursery and attract the pigs thereto for thereby aiding in visual inspection of the pigs.
