  • Patent number: 7771417
Abstract: A laser system that includes a diode pump source. A frequency doubled solid state visible laser is pumped by the diode pump source and produces a pulsed laser output with a train of pulses. Resources provide instructions for the creation of the pulsed output, with on and off times that provide for substantial confinement of thermal effects at a target site. This laser system results in tissue specific photoactivation (or TSP) without photocoagulation damage to any of the adjacent tissues and without causing full thickness retinal damage and the associated vision loss.

  • Publication number: 20080108979
Abstract: A treatment apparatus has a probe needle with a distal end, a laser fiber and a plurality of illumination fibers. The laser fiber and the plurality of illumination fibers are substantially flush with the distal end of the probe needle. The illumination fibers of the plurality of illumination fibers have a numerical aperture greater than 0.55.

  • Publication number: 20080108981
Abstract: A treatment apparatus has a probe needle at a distal end of the apparatus and a laser fiber. A plurality of illumination fibers are provided. The laser fiber and the plurality of illumination fibers are shaped at a distal end of the probe needle. The illumination from the probe needle is configured to be distanced 2 to 4 mm from a retina and has an illumination spot area of about 40 to 140 mm2.

  • Publication number: 20050197655
Abstract: A surgical technique for removing corneal tissue with scanned infrared radiation is disclosed which utilizes short mid-infrared laser pulses to provide a tissue removal mechanism based on photospallation. Photospallation is a photomechanical ablation mechanism which results from the absorption of incident radiation by the corneal tissue. Since photospallation is a mechanical ablation process, very little heat is generated in the unablated adjacent tissue. The disclosed surgical system includes a scanning beam delivery system which allows uniform irradiation of the treatment region and utilizes low energy outputs to achieve controlled tissue removal. A real-time servo-controlled dynamic eye tracker, based on a multiple-detector arrangement, is also disclosed which senses the motion of the eye and provides signals that are proportional to the errors in the lateral alignment of the eye relative to the axis of the laser beam.

  • Publication number: 20040098070
Abstract: A treatment apparatus for a tissue site includes a scattered light measurement device. The scattered light measurement device produces an excitation beam to scatter from the tissue site and monitors temperature dependent changes at the tissue site. An output device produces an output to an observer that is indicative of the temperature change at the tissue site. The output device can produce a variety of different outputs including but not limited an output through a computer, through a heads up display, through a slit lamp, an audible output or a print out of information.
