  • Publication number: 20090181586
Abstract: A method of forming a surfboard includes using a press to bend a flexible mold that contains a surfboard core, layed up with resin and reinforcing material. The layed up surfboard core is allowed to cure in the mold/press, at least partially, to set a desired degree of rocker to the surfboard. Common surfboard core blanks may be used to form surfboards with different degrees of rocker, and in this sense, may allow surfboard manufacturers to provide a greater variety of surfboard choices and/or to manufacture surfboards more efficiently. A surfboard may be formed with a core that includes a central portion and a separate rail portion. The rail portion may placed inside of a braided sleeve or reinforcing material and assembled to the central portion of the surfboard core to provide desired structure characteristics to the surfboard.

  • Publication number: 20080096975
Abstract: Provided are novel biocompatible copolymers and compositions comprising the copolymers. The copolymers and degradation products thereof are non-toxic and typically have an LCST between room temperature and 37° C. so that they are liquid at room temperature and gelled at 37° C. which facilitates their use in humans, for example for wound treatment and as a cellular growth matrix or niche. The copolymer comprises numerous ester linkages in its backbone so that the copolymers are erodeable in situ. Degradation products of the polymer are soluble and non-toxic. The copolymer is amine-reactive so that it can conjugate with proteins, such as collagen. Active ingredients, such as drugs, can be incorporated into compositions comprising the copolymer.

  • Publication number: 20050144957
Abstract: A rotor overspeed protection system for a gas turbine engine controls engine fuel flow to prevent an engine rotor from over-speeding. The engine fuel metering system includes a fuel metering valve in flow communication with a fuel shutoff valve and a fuel bypass valve. The rotor protection system includes an overboost servovalve and a soleniod valve coupled to the fuel metering system and to an independent speed sensing system. • Patent number: 6603136
Abstract: An improved laser marking focal length setting device allows an operator of a laser marking apparatus to easily and properly set the distance between a movable laser source output and an item to be marked. The device includes a sensor which is mounted at the same distance from the item to be marked as the laser source output. The device further includes an array of light emitting diodes, each of which corresponds to a predetermined focal length. In operation, the laser source output and sensor are moved together along the axis of the laser beam. The sensor supplies a signal indicative of the distance between the sensor and item. Because the laser source output and sensor are located at the same distance from the item to be marked, this signal is also indicative of the distance from the laser source output to the item. When the distance sensed is a focal length corresponding to one of the LED's, that LED lights.

  • Patent number: 6230693
Abstract: An auxiliary canister operates with a storage canister of an evaporative emissions control system to reduce the amount of fuel vapor emitted from a vehicle to very low levels. The storage canister contains a first sorbent material and has a vent port in communication therewith. The auxiliary canister comprises an enclosure, first and second passages, a heater and a connector. Inside the enclosure, a second sorbent material is in thermal contact with the heater. Attached at one end to the bottom of the enclosure, the first passage is connectable at its other end to the vent port to allow flow between the storage and auxiliary canisters. Attached at one end to a top of the enclosure, the second passage is connectable at its other end to a vent valve of the control system to allow flow between the auxiliary canister and the vent valve. Incorporated into the enclosure, the connector is used to convey electrical power from the vehicle to the heater.
