  • Patent number: 7624147
Abstract: A solution is provided that allows prompt notification of new e-mail arrival while minimizing the unnecessary loading of mail server and network resources. It provides a short time delay after arrival of new e-mail when the user needs it most, and minimizes the unnecessary loading of resources when the user does not require immediate notification. This is accomplished by establishing a session with the mail server once a predefined event, such as the sending of new e-mail, has occurred. This session may invoke server-initiated-notification of new-email for a limited period of time.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 4, 2003
Date of Patent: November 24, 2009
    Assignee: Sierra Wireless, Inc.

  • Publication number: 20080291833
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a queue buffer management method. For one embodiment of the invention, internet protocol data is generated at a data source device. The generated data is communicated to one or more network devices and received at the one or more network devices. Portions of the generated data are selectively deleted based on specified criteria in order to effect improved data flow of the generated data. The specified criteria selected from the group consisting of time since last drop, number of packets since last dropped, packet protocol, packet size and combinations thereof. For one embodiment of the invention, the generated data is communicated via flow controllable interface.

  • Publication number: 20080244095
Abstract: Disclosed is an algorithm for selecting optimum network access technology. The algorithm includes collecting network quality measurement data for one or more available network access technologies. Then, calculating based on the collected network quality measurement data one or more normalized quality attributes for one or more available network access technologies. Next, generating based on the one or more normalized quality attributes one or more quality metrics for one or more available network access technologies. Finally, selecting an optimum network access technology from the one or more available network access technologies based on the quality metrics of available network access technologies.

  • Publication number: 20070033646
Abstract: A solution is provided wherein a VPN session may be suspended without termination. When a user wishes to connect to a host outside of the VPN, the device does not abandon the secure connection. Instead, it stores all the necessary network parameters associated with the secure VPN connections for later recall. When the user later wishes to connect to the VPN again, the device may then simply recall the necessary network parameters associated with the prior secure VPN connection, and begin data transfer with the VPN.

  • Patent number: 6625133
Abstract: A system and method of implementing a radio link protocol and dynamic partial echo management for a transaction oriented packet data communication system. A data backlog is described with a media access control layer controller and transmitting a BEGIN protocol data unit transmitted to a receiver. A media access control layer transaction is initiated in response to the transmitting of the BEGIN frame.

  • Patent number: 6611515
Abstract: A system and method of implementing a radio link protocol completion oriented packet data communication system. A data backlog is described with a media access control layer controller and transmitting a BEGIN protocol data unit containing a flag transmitted to a receiver. A media access control layer transaction is initiated in response to the transmitting of the BEGIN protocol data unit.
