  • Patent number: 4545605
Abstract: A technique for securing a tube to a flange includes the steps of inserting the end of the tube into an aperture provided on the flange from the first side of the flange such that a portion of the tube extends at least to, and preferably beyond the second side of the flange opposite the first side. A ceramic plug is optionally inserted into the end of the tube to prevent weld spatter and tube burn-through. The tube is then welded to the flange about the circumference of the tube from the second side of the flange, and that portion of the tube which extends beyond the second side of the flange is removed by grinding to produce the finished product.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 16, 1984
Date of Patent: October 8, 1985
    Assignee: APX Group, Inc.
Inventors: James E. Gerber, Robert J. Kovacs, Willy Herrmann

  • Patent number: 4452705
Abstract: A filter device for the softening and/or complete desalination of liquids includes a container which is filled with ion exchanger compound, through which the liquid to be treated flows, with an inflow an outflow opening. A hollow filtering member the interior of which is connected to a discharge opening for discharging purified liquid, is disposed in the container. The filtering member is disposed within a receiving space which is, at least largely, shielded from the ion exchanger compound and is in communication with the interior of the container. This arrangement of the filtering member ensures that, for instance, raw water introduced into the container can act on the filtering member only if it has first penetrated the ion exchanger compound.

  • Patent number: 4294699
Abstract: A bed of particulate ion-exchange material is confined in the cavity of a container bounded by a wall portion of the container which is movable inward of the cavity. Supply and discharge conduits communicate with respective portions of the cavity for supplying the liquid to be purified, and for discharging from the cavity the liquid purified by contact with the particulate material. A biasing device engages the container outside the cavity and biases the movable wall portion inward of the cavity, whereby the particulate material is kept under compressive stress, and channeling due to shrinkage of the bed is avoided.
