  • Patent number: 5894891
Abstract: What is disclosed is a device for extinguishing fires, and utilization of the device for stationary protection of specific objects, and for dust abatement during blasting operations, and a method for extinguishing forest or terrain fires with the extinguishing device. The extinguishing device comprises a container for receiving an extinguishing agent, and an explosive in or on this container, by means of detonation of which the extinguishing agent is atomized to form a mist and brought into the fire. In order to increase the flexibility and effectiveness in practical use, the container consists of a flexible hose which may be closed at both ends. The method of extinguishing forest or terrain fires with this device provides for the hose to be laid out in front of the fire front, filled with the extinguishing agent, and exploded by detonation of the explosive.

  • Patent number: 4550786
Abstract: A method for the driving of steel profiles into a rock substratum is described, in which, before the driving, holes are drilled into the rock substratum, in which holes explosive charges are detonated. The explosive charge is so constructed and dimensioned that only the shock waves of the explosion act upon the rock, and not the combustion gases, so that the rock is only shattered in its internal structure but is not driven away. In the construction of a sheet pile wall, the holes are provided with explosive in mutually overlapping zones of differing depths, zones of the same depth being detonated at the same time and the charge in each hole being provided at top and bottom with a detonator each.

  • Patent number: 4222684
Abstract: Problems arise when erecting a sheet pile on rock substratum and subsequently anchoring the piles. If a channel is blasted, this has the draw-back that the over burden has to be initially cleared prior to blasting and then replaced subsequently. In addition, the piles when secured in the blasted channel when refilled with concrete and the anchors in the rock substratum are not as securely supported as piles driven into normal substratum. A method of erecting sheet pile and a method of anchoring the sheet pile is disclosed where the substratum is shattered by blasting sufficiently to allow the piles and the anchors, which are also piles, to be driven into the rock substratum.
