    Abstract: A system, method and computer program product for providing answers to questions based on any corpus of data. The method facilitates generating a number of candidate passages from the corpus that answer an input query, and finds the correct resulting answer by collecting supporting evidence from the multiple passages. By analyzing all retrieved passages and that passage's metadata in parallel, there is generated an output plurality of data structures including candidate answers based upon the analyzing. Then, by each of a plurality of parallel operating modules, supporting passage retrieval operations are performed upon the set of candidate answers, and for each candidate answer, the data corpus is traversed to find those passages having candidate answer in addition to query terms. All candidate answers are automatically scored causing the supporting passages by a plurality of scoring modules, each producing a module score.

    Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for producing an advertisement that is optimized to a particular user or group of users for a current transaction and is presented to such users at the point of sale or transaction terminal at a public location. The transaction terminal produces current transaction data that includes customer identity, and goods/services being purchased and their prices. The current transaction data is sent to an advertisement server via a network such as the Internet. The advertisement server implements a user database device, a goods database and an advertisement database to locate an existing advertisement or create a new advertisement that is optimized according to common characteristics of the particular group. The optimized advertisement is sent to the transaction terminal for presentation to the user on a monitor or like display device or, printed on a sales receipt.

    Abstract: A method and system are disclosed that enable a user to search a large collection of structured and unstructured documents using semantic concepts that the system provides to them, to search the most relevant business activity first, and then using one of the business activities as the additional context to search for specific document or documents that are most relevant. One aspect of the invention provides a methodology to perform concept-based structured search over document collections to obtain search results as business activities and associated relevant documents using the business activity context. The document collections are obtained by aggregating documents corresponding to a business activity. The instances are extracted from the document collections together with any concept-relationship specific heuristics in that domain. Another aspect of the invention enables the enterprise user to enter concepts and instances that define the search parameters using a structured user interface.

Information of each use, impact, effect or transfer is transferred with the index back to a central location for storage, referenced by the index. The information may be viewed by the depositor according to the index of the depositor. A reference number is placed on any end product produced by the use the deposit. A third party may view information about the depositor by using the reference number.

    Abstract: A system and method for indexing and searching textual archives using semantic units such as syllables and morphemes. In one aspect, a system for indexing a textual archive comprises an AHR (automatic handwriting recognition) system and/or OCR (optical character recognition) system for transcribing (decoding) textual input data (handwritten or typed text) into a string of semantic units (e.g., syllables or morphemes) using a statistical language model and vocabulary based on semantic units (such as syllables or morphemes). The string of semantic units that result from a decoding process are stored in a semantic unit database and indexed with pointers to the corresponding textual data in the textual archive. In another aspect, a system for searching a textual archive is provided, wherein a word (or words) to be searched is rendered into a string of semantic units (e.g., syllables or morphemes) depending on the application.

The system includes a volume sensor/controller for monitoring the volume output of the headset by adjusting the volume to be within a predetermined threshold. A warning indicator indicates to the user or a person monitoring the listening user that the volume is set too high. The method include the steps of comparing the received audio signal to the predetermined volume threshold and adjusting the volume accordingly. The method also includes the steps of notifying that the volume has been set at too high a level by providing a warning signal, such as an audible or visual alarm.

Client access codes (passwords, PINs) are maintained by the service facility in a database. When a client seeks access to the service facility, e.g., access to the client's account, a random sequence of character is generated and passed to the client. The client responds with an offset that when combined with the random character sequence is the client's access code. The client sends the code to the service facility and is granted access to the client's account. Optionally, the service facility may specify an intended relationship between the offset and the random character sequence, e.g., the offset is added/subtracted from the random character sequence. For additional security, dummy characters may be embedded in the random character sequence.

The system further includes a processor having a memory for storing data collected from the sensors. The data collected by the sensors and stored in the memory provide at least information about different types of movements associated with a particular set of tasks.
