Patent number: 4818356Abstract: The invention relates to a process for coating an electrically conductive substrate, the said substrate being immersed in an aqueous bath based on a cationic synthetic resin binder which is at least in part neutralized with acids and contains amino and/or hydroxyl groups. The said bath contains a mixture of crosslinking agents as well as pigments, fillers, corrosion inhibitors, paint auxiliary substances, and, if appropriate, catalysts, as well as organic solvents in an amount of up to 15% by weight based on the total weight of the coating, the said substrate being cathodically connected. By the action of direct current, a film is deposited on the substrate, after which the said substrate is removed from the bath and the film is cured by stoving, the mixture of crosslinking agents comprising at least two crosslinking agents of different reactivities based on activated esters and/or polyisocyanates blocked by different blocking agents.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1986Date of Patent: April 4, 1989Assignee: BASF Lacke & Farben AktiengesellschaftInventors: Michael Geist, Gunther Ott, Georg Schon, Arnold Dobbelstein, Wolfgang Batzill

Patent number: 4788260Abstract: The invention relates to water-dispersible binders which are intended for cationic electropaints and are based on reaction products which are formed from modified epoxy resins and primary and/or secondary amines and which can, if desired, also contain crosslinking agents, pigments, flow-control agents and other customary auxiliaries. They contain as reaction products those which have been prepared by reacting(A) low molecular weight epoxy resins which contain epoxy compound aromatic groups and have an epoxide equivalent weight of less than 375 with(B) aliphatic and/or alicyclic polyfunctional alcohols having hydroxyl groups or carboxylic acids having carboxylic groups and both having a molecular weight of less than 350 and addition of the hydroxyl groups and carboxylic groups to the epoxy groups of (A) in such a way that the reaction products of (A) and (B) contain 10-45% of aromatic groups, calculated as the phenylene group, and have terminal epoxy groups.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1983Date of Patent: November 29, 1988Assignee: BASF Lacke & Farben AGInventors: Wolfgang Batzill, Horst Diefenbach, Michael Geist, Eberhard Schupp

Patent number: 4707232Abstract: This application discloses a synthetic resin based on alcohol-modified polyepoxides. The synthetic resin can be prepared by reacting a diepoxide, or a mixture of diepoxides, having an epoxide equivalent weight of less than about 500, with compounds with a hydroxyl group, which is reactive towards epoxide groups, in a molar ratio from about 2:1 to about 7:6 at temperatures from about 100.degree. C. to about 180.degree. C. in an organic solvent free of hydroxyl groups. The synthetic resin has terminal epoxide gorups and a mean molecular weight from about 400 to about 5000.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1986Date of Patent: November 17, 1987Assignee: BASF Farben & Fasern AGInventors: Wolfgang Batzill, Arnold Dobbelstein, Michael Geist, Georg Schon, Gunther Ott
