  • Patent number: 9259994
Abstract: An elongate glazing component such as a water-tray mounting profile is attached to an automotive glazing adjacent an edge thereof to extend along at least part of the edge. At least one small, generally flat reinforcing member is bonded by adhesive to the inner face of the glazing adjacent the glazing component, each reinforcing member having a contact area for bonding to the inner face of the glazing, and a flange which extends over part of the elongate glazing component and is in contact with it. The flange may be generally parallel to the inner face of the glazing. Preferably the adhesive is cured by ultraviolet light and shrinks on curing. This property may be used to compress an attachment limb of the water-tray mounting profile, thereby holding it more securely. The arrangement may be used to attach a water-tray to a vehicle windscreen without support from the vehicle bodywork.

  • Patent number: 8839589
Abstract: An automotive glazing having a mounting strip for mounting a glazing component attached adjacent at least one edge thereof is disclosed. The mounting strip comprises at least one ridge positioned in contact with the glazing such that the majority of the mounting strip is spaced apart from the glazing, forming a cavity. The mounting strip is bonded to a major face of the glazing by an adhesive material in contact with at least a portion of the mounting strip, and positioned such that it does not overlap the edge of the glazing. The ridge, the mounting strip end and the major face of the glazing to which the strip is bonded form a cavity having an open end facing the edge of the glazing, the cavity being dimensioned to receive a portion of said glazing component.

  • Publication number: 20100244483
Abstract: An automotive glazing having a mounting strip for mounting a glazing component attached adjacent at least one edge thereof, and extending along at least a portion of the length of that edge, is disclosed. The mounting strip is bonded to a major face of the glazing by a strip of adhesive material in contact with at least a portion of the mounting strip. At least another portion of the mounting strip is spaced from the major face of the glazing. The adhesive is positioned such that the mounting strip does not overlap the edge of the glazing. A cavity is formed between the glazing, the adhesive and the mounting strip, the adhesive forming a closed end of the cavity, and an open end of the cavity facing the edge of the glazing. The cavity is dimensioned to receive a portion of said glazing component. Preferably, the adhesive is polyvinyl butyral (PVB). A method of bonding the mounting strip to the glazing is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6071108
Abstract: An injection-molding mold has a pair of mold parts each in turn having a generally annular outer edge and a generally annular inner edge directed in a closing direction. The mold parts fit together on closing in the direction with a workpiece between them and with the outer edges engaging each other and the inner edges engaging opposite faces of the workpiece. The inner edges form with the outer edges an annular compartment containing an outer periphery of the workpiece engaged between the inner edges and one of the mold parts is formed with a port opening into the compartment. In accordance with the invention a body forming at least part of one of the inner edges is movable on the respective mold part in the closing direction, and structure is provided for displacing the body in the closing direction away from the respective mold part for engagement with the workpiece on closing of the mold and for positioning the body in the direction relative to the respective mold part.
